Round 9 - Player Ratings

OK, we lost another today which isn't good. But for the first time in about a month we really seemed to have a dig. Better ball control and we could easily have won today.

Tom Trbojevic 4/10 - Bad day with his hands, but he never gave up and made some good runs. Should have had a try assist with that pass to Aku.

Matthew Wright 3/10 - Another who had a bad hands day. Didn't do much else either.

Moses Suli 7/10 - Didn't do a whole lot wrong and contained Mitchell fairly well. Made some good runs.

Brian Kelly 6/10 - Wasn't bad but didn't see enough of the ball in attack.

Akuila Uate 9/10 - One of our best today and for once had hands of glue.

Dylan Walker 6/10 - Played like a 3rd centre, but wasn't too bad really. Should have been allowed to play on which would likely have seen him score. He did not knock-on.

Daly Cherry-Evans 6/10 - Seems to be rushing his kicks which is harming their quality. Trying his guts out but needs an organising 5/8 to bring out his best. And I don't blame the loss on that kick.....though it didn't help.

Addin Fonua-Blake 7/10 - Strong running game from the big bloke with no silly penalties. Scored a strong try but his obligatory dropped ball led to a Chooks try.

Api Koroisau 6/10 - Didn't run a lot today but as usual did a mountain of defence. Good to see him play the full 80.

Martin Taupau 9/10 - Welcome back Kapow. Very strong game from the big bloke.

Joel Thomson 8/10 - Easily his best game for us. Saw more ball in attack thanks to DCE being on the left.

Shaun Lane 7/10 - Other than his missed tackle on Maria, Lane had a strong game.

Jake Trbojevic 7/10 - Back in form for Jake, though I wish he would do more hard running than looking to pass.

Lewis Brown N/A - Didn't get off the bench. And for this we're keeping Hastings in reserve grade?

Frank Winterstein 3/10 - First 2 touches were knock-ons. Summed up Frank's day and year.

Lloyd Perrett 4/10 - Didn't see a lot of game time.

Taniela Paseka 6/10 - Didn't do a lot wrong, but needs to drop the gentle giant act and get mean.

We could have won today. We should have won, we dominated them really. Poor handling, a few highly questionable calls against us.....and a complete lack of structure and polish in attack meant we didn't get the points.

If I were the coach (and thankfully I'm not)....the changes I would make for next week would be:

Suli to the wing, Walker to the centres, Hastings to 5/8. Matty Wright, Brown and Winterstein back to Blacktown with Tom Wright and Toafofoa Sipley on the bench.

Like I said, thankfully I'm not the coach and selection isn't up to me.

I think the Kelly and Suli rating are still arse about mate.Suli had quite a bit of help containing Mitchell after initially missing him at least twice and I thought Ned had a very good game.

I saw a 7 in DCE too.

Subjective It is for sure

I would give Tapau, J Trobj, Thompson, and Uate all 10/10 today.
All four of them absolutely busted their arses today and epitomised the Manly spirit, and it is sad that such efforts are buried away forever in our frustrations with Manly losses.
The rest tried too, and there was plenty of talk among the team, but for the most part they are disorganised and not on the same page at all.
I feel sorry for T Trobj - he just looks all over stressed and is not enjoying his footy at the moment. He wants to be like B Stewart and wants to have impact but a sore ankle and lack of team cohesion are hurting him massively.

Also think wrights rating is way too low. We lost by 2 points, would have lost by atleast 12 if wright wasn't making sure we had someone cleaning up at the back when Tom was nowhere to be seen

Matt Wright also made a try saving tackle on Latrell Mitchell after Suli went up out of the line too quick and got stepped.

Good summary. Thought Walker was better than a six given the task he was given.

Trent Barrett is single handedly destroying one of the great attacking players in our game with his 2016 five eight experiment and his overall handling of finding a five eight for the last three years. This bloke should be playing with Chambers in the centres for Australia. It’s a disgrace. And that doesn’t even take into account what it’s done to DCE.

Man up and pick Hastings . He’s definitely no world beater but he can pass and KICK!!!! We have one kicker ffs!! And no one else WHO CAN KICK!!

Completely agree. Well said. But, unfortunately, Hastings won't be picked until we have lost at least our 7th game in a row and sit on the bottom of the table. By then either Barrett will be gone, or they will see sense.
Amazing what it takes to get to that point. We got absolutely caned in kick metres and had to burn out our forwards to make them.

Tom T was a 2 at best.

Lewis Brown had a better game..

Do you really think Suli had a better game than Walker?

Can we just get over the fact that Hastings is not going to be picked? While Hastings is the best option we have at 6, he's not going to get a shot this year so we're just going to have to work with what we have. Also, Anderson isn't get picked because he can't. Not in the top 30 and won't be as long as we have players that are capable of playing in the backs. T Wright is a different case though, should have been blooded on the wing but can see why Baz would go for a more experienced player.

Suli as 7/10 is pure poetic licence.

He did his part as a first grader, no doubt. But a 5 is a pass mark in my old school, and he did little more than that.
