Australian commentators (and Daryl Halligan) have been cringey as **** forever over their pronunciation of Māori and Pasifika names. Not taking the time to get a person's name right borders on being offensive.
It is about time that they actually tried to get it right rather than virtue-signaling cultural initiatives.
I come across a bit strong there, but it really is the most basic form of respect and acknowledgment of a person. It is a commentators professional responsibility.
Many players would be backward in coming forward due to years of systemic racism and their natural deference. I think one of the big turning points was Erin Molan's Hooka, Looka, Mooka comment.
It might not be a big deal to you, but it would be a very big deal to some of the players and their connections with their identitiy, culture and ancestors.
