Round 3 - Other games (2018)

It’s a penaltython tonight.

Time they brought in differential penalties , restart of tackle count for all penalties other than foul play.

Would Vunivalu actually be playing NRL if he couldn't score tries?

Can't defend, no football brain. Good thing he can make breaks and score tries I guess.

He crawls 3 metres off the mark every time he is tackled, it drives me insane how often he gets away with it. It was nice to see him try it and have the ball come out for his efforts.

I can't figure out how he was one of the final 4 candidates for the 2017 Golden Boot. Other than making breaks or scoring tries he has no football nouse whatsoever.

It just goes to show what I have been thinking for the past 10 or so years about the way rugby league is being seen. Who cares if you actually know how to tackle or throw a pass, if you can score YouTube highlight tries then you're obviously a superstar......

Thank God for players like Jake Trbojevic. Players who can attack AND defend.

Thurston proved that he is still a dangerous player with the ball in hand though. That pass to Hess for their first try was a pearler.

I think in attack last night the Cows were actually hampered by Morgan's inability to run. That's one of the strongest parts of his game because he doesn't like passing it a lot.

Their defence was pretty soft up the middle too. Not nearly as bad as doesn't-matta's last week, but still soft. Fatty pointed out early that in last weeks game, Matt Scott took 3 early hit ups and then was so buggered that James Roberts just stepped past him and took off. Ok, fair enough that's not a fair contest at the best of times because with his speed Roberts will make a lot of players look silly let alone an aging front rower. But last night it was the same thing really, he took a few hit ups and he had almost nothing left in defence. A couple of the Storm's breaks around the 20 to 25 minute mark was simply because he either missed a tackle or didn't have enough mobility to cover.

I said from the start that I didn't think that the Cows deserved the favouritism that they have been given. Their only good form last year was in the Finals and even with JT and Scott back I didn't think it would make them that much better. And now with Morgan also playing injured I think they are going to find it tougher than most experts thought they would.

I also get the feeling they are going to have to make a change to the way they do things. Jake Granville seems to be a marked man with his dummy half passes and they are starting to pick up on the fact that most of them are forward.

Thurston is a real liability in defence now, a year too long it seems.

Most of the Storms points last night were after a Thurston missed tackled, miss-read or penalty. The brain might be there but the speed/reaction is not thus leaving him in no mans land.

Teams will run more an more at him as the season goes on, he will cop a bruise and be injured until the last few weeks for a final round around.
