Ron Rowles

He coached my brother in law somewhere or other.
My condolences to Peter and the family.

I think he has the record for most points in 1 game for manly?

30 points (4 tries, 9 goals) vs Canterbury-Bankstown on 24 July 1954 at Brookvale. Record jointly held with Matthew Ridge who also scored 30 (2 tries, 11 goals) against Wests at Brookie on 25 August 1996.

Ron Rowles was the NSWRFL leading point scorer in:

1951 – 199 (11 tries, 83 goals)
1952 – 178 (8 tries, 77 goals)
1953 – 152 (8 tries, 64 goals)
1954 – 223 (13 tries, 92 goals)

Peter played for Manly too (both codes), before heading to Wests.

Peter Rowles played 2 rugby union tests for the Wallabies (1972 and 1973). He played 3 years at Wests (1977-1979) before moving to Newtown. He retired from playing in 1981. He set the Wests season point scoring record in 1978 with 215 (8 tries, 94 goals, 3 field goals).

He was a fly half in union and a 5/8 in league.

I know he was at Manly before Wests, but did he play first grade for us?

Not according to the encyclopedia of rugby league players.
It only lists 1st graders not any lower grade games.

From Rugby League Project.....

"The son of Manly record-breaker Ron Rowles progressed from a Country RU rep from Wollongong to the NSW and Australian Test team in 1972. A brilliant goal-kicker and a tactically sound pivot, Rowles played against Fiji in Suva, and Wales on the 1973-74 Wallaby tour but broke his leg in a car accident which left him in plaster for almost eight months. Rowles was playing RU with Gordon in 1975 when he switched codes to play for Manly but spent the following season at Thirroul on the South Coast. In 1977 he signed with Wests and set a club record 229pts (8t, 101g, 3fg) when the Magpies won the minor premiership the following year. After one season with Newtown, he saw out the final year of his career back with Wests."

The Manly Sea Eagles are saddened to report the passing of former prolific point scoring winger Ron Rowles at the age of 89.

Rowles passed away last weekend on the south coast.

A brilliant winger, Rowles joined Manly from Wollongong in 1950 and in four seasons with the club scored 842 points from 46 tries and 352 goals.

In four consecutive seasons he was the top point scorer in the NSW Rugby League premiership.
