Got it - it was a trick question as they disappeared in (I think) 1920 and did not win until 1997 (the pain is only just starting to recide), following re-entry in 1992!

I think necastle only lasted 2 seasons.

I thought it was 1910 - 3 seasons total.

You could well be right on this one. I will have to check.

Newcastle initially only played in the first two seasons - 1908, 1909, playing the semi final in 1909. They then left the comp to return imuch later - you know the rest.
