To be fair , Thurston did not attack the integrity of the officials. Rather he attacked the whole integrity of the game and all who had gone before him. Rather than just say the refs sucked, he said everyone associated with the game sucked, therefore no fine could apply.

And he would know, because Fox, Nine, Fairfax, the NRL and the Qld media in general have been hosing him for years.

IMO Thurston did attack the integrity of the referees and the integrity of the NRL with his past comments. He said directly to the refs that the refs had robbed them and then he said there was a Sydney conspiracy to get NSW teams in the GF. But, he got away with it because, well, he's Johnathan Thurston. And because the NRL didn't want to face a Qld backlash had they fined or suspended him for what he said.

That's my opinion anyway.
