Refereeing

I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist but when we played the Titans and we got out to a good lead, it certainly seemed like the Titans started getting the benefit of the doubt with the referees...the amount of times they got piggy backed up the field in the first 20 minutes of that second half was (how should I say this...) interesting?!

One does have to wonder...
That raiders/roosters game last week was the biggest slice of piggybacking I've seen. What did the roosters get?..7 or 8 in a row to bring them into the game. No wonder Ricky wanted face time with Archer.

If they referee games like that on a weekly basis, they lose a fair slice of their power to manipulate the competition.

You watch Game 2: I'd put my house on QLD if I owned one lol. They'll get looked after unbelievably..

In tonight's match there were 18 penalties: 11 - 8 to Doesn'tmatta. This was a perfect illustration how differently the average NRL games is refereed to a SOO where there were only four penalties.
Yeah there was a typical shoulder height high tackle called as well and I remember thinking to myself "this is exactly what I was posting about".

refereeing can generally swing a game by 20 points or more,
i.e. 20-20 draw (with perhaps the 'exciting' golden point) could also be
30-10 one way or 10-30 the other, and everything in between....

The reason the game was played with no stoppages cause there was no refereeing out there just a guy in a different shirt counting to 6

Conversely club games can be ruined if too much leniency allows teams to abuse the rules, it is a very fine line.

Allowances to slowing down the play the ball should be better defined, such as allowing some wrestle if the player/s involved are doing so in a style/manner that is a continuous movement to allow the tackler to get into marker from the side of the tackled player.

Gould will make one comment about how good Origin is officiated then 2yrs later jump on the other side of the fence talking about how the game is being ruined due to the abuse of the rules off the back of too much leniency, all it does is create an inconsistent environment.

Personally the game needs to be ruined with penalties for at least 2yrs so teams start to respect the laws of the game more so.

Yes this over strict application will ruin the spectacle and crowds will drop further but for the greater good of the game into the distant future it needs to happen, leniency will only offer short term benefits until coaches abuse the F&^% out of the leniency afforded.

Penalties 4-2 nil to Manly first half. 4 -nil to Canberra second half. Please explain!

There has been much said about the quality of the refereeing last night during the Origin...obviously it was great refereeing and the game was allowed to flow blah blah blah we hear it every year... But will someone for the life of me tell me WHY they can't apply the same leniency to club officiating?! If it makes for a better spectacle, then why not do it every week throughout the season? It has nothing to do with the quality of the game allowing for it because there were some really obvious things that were let go last night that would have been pulled up in the club games...

The NRL will never do it. Why? Because then Origin wouldn't be 10 times better than a NRL game. Which is dumb as e could have 8 quality games every weekend if the NRL actually woke up.

Wow! What a post, talk about predicting the exact score, into golden point, and the obvious favouritism that the officials showed to the Raiders in the second half.
