Reduce value of penalty goals

My pet hate at the moment is seeing the sideline trainer hold up two fingers to instruct the team to take a penalty kick at goal. It has become a trend, with Manly now having the indignity of an outsider ordering the captain to take a kick at goal.
How demeaning for the captain. The coach obviously doesn't think the bloke in the thick of the action has the game sense to know whether it's time to take a kick at goal or play on.
It's Under 11s coaching! It's helicopter coaching. It has to stop. Once the players take the field the captain is in charge and should be calling all the shots.
And while on the number of penalty goals in RL - why has the sport suddenly turned into a rugby union kick-a-goal competition?
Is it time to reduce a penalty goal to one point? This would increase the worth of a try which has the potential to reap six points.
I'm sick of seeing penalty goals rather than a team striving for a try.

If they reduce the value of the penalty goal, watch for an increase in teams giving away penalties. The sin bin is the only solution and when teams are playing against 12,less likely they’ll waste time taking a shot at penalty goal.Bring back the 5 minute sin bin and ignore coach’s and media whinging about it ruining the “spectacle”

I just hate teams who go for 2's multiple times a game, like its ****in annoying, i want to watch a quality game, but as soon as they get close to the try line they go for 2 wasting 5 minutes until play restarts on the other side of the field, like jjust **** off with the 2's. Go for a try

What about 2 points for tries scored off any type of kick and then 2 points for kick at goal.
I think tries off kicks don't show the same level skills as great backline movement. I mean you have one block kicking with the attacking team screaming down on one fullback/winger..

I'm more concerned with the domination of possession and leg up the field that penalties give in general. The two things I would consider is perhaps eliminating kicks for touch for anything bar professional fouls (and give a fresh set of six from where the defending line was set when penalised), and make the scoring team kick off. That would place some reluctance in the attacking team to kick for goal if they know they will be giving the ball back immediately after.

Nothing wrong with two points. some teams take two because they aren't good enough to score 4. Some teams are so good, if you only take the two you will loose, because they will get 6. It's seems a bit rough that any of that, is the points systems fault!

I can't remember how it went in the super league days (never bothered watching it), how about the team that kicks the penalty goal, kicks off after scoring the 2. Loosing possession may force them to attack rather than take the 2.

There must be a thousand things wrong with that idea???!!!

I'm happy to keep it at 2 points, some teams take it others don't.
That's how it used to be. Nowadays, with so many penalties, all teams are taking shots at penalty goals (unless they are way behind on the scoreboard).
This is just one rule change that is necessary, imo. Others include:
  • a five-minute sin bin
  • short-arm penalties (as in rugby)
  • the team that scores kicks off
  • one referee
