Rebuild at what cost?

We have the makings of a premiership winning backline ... with a couple of touted "future superstars" to come in.

In the pack .. we have Huamole, Bully and Paseka who would also not look out of place in a premiership team .. plus TKO and Ben that would both contribute.

IMO we don't need a major rebuild ... we simply need some young powerful pigs ... and I think the club is sweating on the Turbo and Jurbo contracts to provide the salary cap to get them.

Seibold has just been capable of plugging gaps until this happens .. DCE going is the beginning.
Fair but I am not sold on many of the players being premiership quality. I know it is not the only guide but how many of non big 3 are seriously in contention for any rep honours? Ola is there abouts but not fully there...I love Paseka but at this stage he is not rep quality...same with Garrick, Saab, Tolo and Hoppa (who has a massive upside)

And no I don't want our first Wooden spoon thank you very much. All we need is a couple of forwards our backs is fine. We should b looking at the Islanders or Poms as we have a good history with English imports, Kevin Ward, Craig Innes was a great.
This is where we agree to disagree on being a couple of forwards short of a serious contender. Lets say you thought we were way off...would you want to rebuild?

Obviously this wont happen but lets assume we could free up the $2.3m that we are paying Tom and Jake for next year and sign two elite guys of the level of Cam Murray and Payne Haas with that money (ok they are just examples, but that sort of money would get guys of that calibre)

That would give us the following team in 2026 without any other signings or youngsters coming through.

1. Hoppa
2. Talau
3. Garrick
4. Koula
5. Saab
6. Brooks
7. Fogarty
13. Murray
12. Burbo
11. Haumole
10. Haas
9. Simpkin
8. Paseka

14. Bullemor
15. Navale
16. Tevaga
17. TKO

I think that team would be top 4 and to me shows not only what sort of handcuff the Trbjoevic contracts are, but we are actually only two elite forwards away from real contention.

Its why i'm bullish on the team from 2027 when the Tom and Jake contracts roll off.

It could look something like this in 2027 (Based on current signings through 2027 and development players coming through).
IMHO, we are already building quite well for 2027 and beyond.

1. Hoppa
2. Willett
3. Large
4. Koula
5. Saab
6. Walsh
7. Fogarty
13. Navale
12. Burbo
11. Haumole
10.
9. Muagututia
8. Paseka

14. Brooks
15.
16.
17. Laiafi

What are Choc and Toovey up to??.. I thought Choc got punted from coaching Syd Shield.
I thought he was coaching the Jersey Flagg team? I remember reading it when he was mentioning the progression of Joey Walsh. If he isn’t anymore I stand corrected. It would also mean more of these moneyball Issac Moses signings to continue smh

All well and good but you need a good coach to undertake a rebuild in the understanding they won’t get sacked and Siebold is not that coach

I actually think a fair few if our plodders are pretty good

Our leadership, our standards and our acceptance has a.ways been our achilles and thats what we need to rebuild

BK introduced a new level and demanded everyone meet it or die trying

Our team accepts losses too well and their accountability has never ever been tested

He is a wanker but i would take reid mahoney
White line fever is such a gift, a talent and he is a hooker to boot. Hi is no instant saviour but at least he is pushing in the right direction

Kikau didnt make the dogs, critter did because he sets a standard that demands respect

Dce has ability but he was never going to give us the edge , and that lack of edge, accountability and consistency …..all connected to our results

My opinion only but DCE could have been a much better player without an 8 year contract . He got soft and so did we……mentally

Holbrook preferably as head coach if not assistant …still can’t believe we let Flanagan go and kept spoon…saints won that deal

I dont feel winning a spoon, is part of the path to building a dominant team that challenges to Win premierships.
There is always the fact blooding youngsters who have great potential, but need to "grow" into consistent NRL players, is a challenging necessity to aim for.
Thing is, still need some great "leaders" and to fit the modern game, some speedy forwards with agility to play at high octave footy.
The keys are still the 1,6,7 and 9 to build around and you need at least 2 of these as "dominant" players.
I will be around regardless of what happens and sink with the ship if need be, but that's my thoughts on the matter

I'm not in any way, shape or form defending Anthony Seibold however, can you please explain to me how "saints won that deal" based on Flanagan's current tenure and performance so-far at the Dragons?

I admit that he has won a premiership (as has Des Hasler who is being lambasted by many), however, what is the fascination with us "losing" Flanagan as if it a catastrophic loss (independent of Anthony Seibold)?

I'm interested to read what it is that he "brings or possess" because I just can't see it.

There are plenty of players, plenty, past and present who do not "rate" him as a coach (along with some officials and advisors), as much as some in the media or fans do.

To be fair on your comment rep quality and premiership quality is totally different. We're not playing as a team week in week out so it's not fair on players who's playing well when another is dropping balls & missing tackles. Big3 becomes big2 when1 is never on the field but when TT is fully fit, we can beat any team in the comp. Since DC$ announcement there's no big3 but U can't say we don't have good enough players in our team to play rep or in a premiership winning team. Imagine Cleary, Api, Haas, AFBlake running the show the rest will follow, score tries, look good, win comp and impress selectors. Look at the Pink Panthers a team of no name and now most become rep players, even some are not but become premiership winners. I think it's the coaches and staffs that's not giving the boys motivation and guidance to allow them to be who they can be. Bellamy/Des/Robinson wear their heart on the club and hate losing. Cleary/Bennett give the boys motivation speech each half and that's it. South was tip to be wooden spooners, Dogs got a rookie coach under Cleary, Sharks got Fitzgibbon under Bellamy and Raiders got Sticky who hates losing and who do we have, a coach who just sit there with no emotions at all trying to be Wayne Bennett.

That's Y we all go to school to learn from the best teachers, if they're SHI#TTT we're not gonna learn much to improve and show our full potential. Journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. All I'm saying is half of our boys deserve a better coach to reach their full potential and deserve to be with the Mighty SeaEagles.

And there are plenty of ex players , current players and even coaching staff who do rate him but my point was I think both Holbrook and Flanagan are a step up from siebs.

I think he wanted to know why you think Flanagan is a better coach. The Dragons look like they are going no where fast & he has had multiple people already walk out on the club since he has taken over. Fair enough he won a grand final but wasn’t that when they were cheating? If so that shouldn’t count toward his credentials as a coach

Fair enough,I just struggle to see it, I really do in relation to Shane Flanagan.

As for Justin Holbrook, he is spoken of quite highly amongst the hierarchy within the Sydney Roosters organisation and a member of his St Helens team that won the 2019 English Super League title, whilst holidaying here in Australia recently, described him as an articulate, meticulous, man-manager with a very sharp mind.

He was surprised at how it all fell apart at the Gold Coast Titans; then again, it appears that coaching appointment is a some-what poisoned chalice.

No. They had stopped the day before pre-season training, and didn’t recommence until the Sunday after winning the GF. 😒

Agreed….roosters definitely rate Holbrook and that’s why he is on good money
