Keen to see various opinions based on what we have gained and lost in 2019 on the Manly roster ?
Ratings out of 10 and why ?

GAINS-

* Elgey has been ordinary at best and had plenty of opportunity - 3/10
* Waddell has shown some great potential and see a long NRL career ahead - 7/10
* Elliott has played solid and adds relable backup - 7/10
* Garrick up with rookie of 2019 - great pickup, kicks goals (Usually) - 8/10
* Smith have not seen much of ???
* Boyle has improved past 2 games considerably - reasonable pickup - 5/10

LOSSES-

* Uate have not seen much SL ??
* Lane started great at Eels but dipped recently, Des could have made him X factor - 7/10
* J Wright - Gone
* T .Wright played ok in the 1 union game he played, without dominating - 4/10
* M Wright in Qld Cup...about the right standard - 4/10
* Brown - Not been sighted - ??
* Winterstein - played ok at Penrith, still some drops and missed tackles, more a backup - 4/10

Garrick the star signing, followed by Elliott who has proved to be a “ fair” backup player.

Lane was a definite bad loss but really hasn’t turned out to be a superstar at the Eels.

And if Lane was still here he’d only rate a bench spot at best with this current line up.

And to think we still have Elgey for another 12 months !!!!!!!

Manly has won games with all of the newbies stepping up apart from Sam who did his knee in BWSE :nod:

LG is only limited by his docile nature which is a shame but everyone has their level 🙂

The losses are difficult to judge as they are not playing under Des.

Brownie retired and is in the clothing business :happy:

Gains:
* Elgey - 4/10
* Waddell - started well, but has faded in the second half of the season - 6/10
* Elliott - 6/10
* Garrick - 7/10
* Boyle - looks to have some upside after a very slow start. I'd like to see a full pre-season under Donny and Des - next year I expect him to be considerably better - 5.5/10

Losses:
- Lane is the only loss. He would have provided some extra strike off the bench.

I reckon for no superstar signings we’ve done bloody well in 2019.

And can’t see anything but losses ahead as we try and manage the cap.

I’ll be surprised if either Api or Thommo are here next year, and I’d be even more surprised if that related to a decent signing.

Lame was pretty poor vs manly the other week. Slow off the mark, didn’t trouble our boys at all.

He stood out for us last year, but it shows how much better our pack is going under des.

Des let lame go from the dogs from memory.

I agree re Waddell he lost his way since returning from suspension however he looked good again last weekend. So let’s hope he finishes the season well.

I don’t see any of our losses as players I now wished we had kept

I don’t think we will keep Elgey and is not going to fit Des or the teams rhythm

All the rest get passes and have already it will play a role in our success thus far with Rueben an A+

Not feeling the loss of anyone we let go.

Elgey has been a let down but decent halves depth. Everyone else has been great value.

Other than the obvious, the other reason Penny left was because he wanted a regular start in the back row and with AFB and Marty up front, Siro back from injury with Thommo in the back row, and of course Jake, there was little chance he would get a starting spot at Manly unless there were injuries. Bench would be his spot at Manly, and even then it would probably be as a front row replacement.

We have unbelievably had the same starting forward pack in all but about 3 games this year ..... our forward depth has been completely untested ... I think Lane's loss would have been felt more if we had suffered injury or suspension to our starting pack ..

Out of a possible 19 games ...

Marty 19 games
Siro 19 games
Thommo 19 games
Jake 18 games
Fainu 18 games
AFB 15 Games

So out of a possible 6 X 19 games = a total of 214 games our pack have played a total of 208 Games ..... this along with Des and his team are major factors in our success ....

PSS ... This fact has gone a long way in improving Siro's match condition and form ... he is fit enough now that he is starting to look to hit in defence .... may it continue ..

Agree with all the ratings, but would honestly give Garrick a 9/10. He possesses so much talent in only his first year of NRL, and honestly can see him getting better and better! He also literally looks like a model which is a bonus @:D

Smith has been injured (I think!), but I believe he is a centre so would be hard enough for him to make first grade anyways with how well Suli and Parker have been going

And Lane's rating would definitely be on the decline...like you said he started great but has not been anything special of late!

You Ella - are 1 wise Eagle @:)

Don't forget we let Tangles go too

Not much discussion on Kelly - as good as Hank has been this year if Kelly had stayed would he still be first choice left centre ??. If Des can turn Parker into a decent first grader imagine what he could have done with Kelly who has a bit more raw talent. But then again it was Des who decided to let him go so maybe he just doesn't rate the guy and saw more potential in the Ranga.
