QLD Origin Team [Game 1, 2018]

Qld dna is getting awfully similar.

Something else Queensland has in common with the royals of old.

Easy to play footy with 2 heads I guess.
They say that two heads are better then one but i can not seem to get my head around that concept .. B T W, double headers are also a common occurrence at Suncorp in May in recent times

Personally I think Smith retired when he did because he probably realised that Queensland's reign is all but over especially as both Cronk and Thurston won't be there and the talent, save maybe one or two (e.g. Ponga) coming through from Qld is arguably well behind that of NSW's.

Glory Hound Smith doesn't want to go out looking like a looser.

He's always been about himself and records.

Great QLD players can retire but ......
You can never retire the QLD winning spirit
.Remember when Fatty coached the no names team to Victory against a Star studded NSW team ? Legend has it that a young unknown and unproven BeN Ikin turned up to the first team meeting and Fatty looked at him and thought " What is the ball boy doing here "?.
I live in the Southern Suburbs of Sydney and support the mighty Sea eagles
I live in NSW and get Inspired by the QLD origin Team . They remind me of all the great maroon Manly premiership winning teams

Yeah I remember that. Fatty and his kids were given no chance, none at all. Who were these kids? Ben Ikin, Terry Cook.....Neville Nobodies. NSW had Kangaroos like Brasher, Wishart, Hill, Serdaris, Carroll, Harragon, Menzies and even Brad Fittler to call on. It was going to be pre-meditated murder which is why Wayne Bennett didn't want a part of it without his Broncos and other SL signed stars.

Fatty was the joker from the footy show. Sure he'd played for a bunch Qld, was an ex-test player and had won a premiership with Manly. But a coach? He didn't know what he was doing....apparently.

But Fatty wasn't the raw rookie joker most thought he was. He had spent most of his playing career around coaches like Frank Stanton, Bob Fulton, Arthur Beetson, Don Furner and Wayne Bennett. He learned a thing or two in his time. And a little know fact was that he did actually have some coaching experience. In (I think) 1993 he had taken a combined side to win the Qld State League knockout competition.

At the end of the day the most resilient team wins the game and not the coach .
The credit goes to the QLD players resilience

Qld still had 79 origin games worth of experience compared to NSW's 68 so qld was hardly as inexperienced as everyone claimed them to be.

That said....nsw should've won 3-0.

I was so annoyed (back then I cared about it more) I was glad I was overseas at the time (go figure) in Finland and I just thought "good". Serves nsw right for taking a good team lightly.

That 79 games of experience was mostly shared between Rowdy Shearer, Trevor Gillmeister, Gary Larson, Billy Moore, Mark Coyne and Gavin Allen. Even though they were first graders, not many gave much credence to Robbie O'Steriods, Matt Sing, Danny Moore, Terry Cook, Ben Ikin or Craig Teevan. They were supposed to be extremely poor substitutes for the likes of Willie Carne, Michael Hancock, Allan Langer, Kevin Walters, Steve Walters, Steve Renouf etc.

NSW really only lost the Canberra players (Daley, Stuart, Mullins, Furner, Clyde) and ET. They still had Brasher, Wishart, McGregor, Harragon, Carroll, Serdaris, Menzies, Fittler, Toovey, Fairleigh, Florimo, Brad McKay, Dean Pay and David Barnhill, as well as the emerging Johns brothers.

Personally, I think that the Blues took that series far too lightly and paid the ultimate price with a 3-0 series loss.

No excuses for NSW feathered friend
When NSW lost the first match they had every opportunity to refocus .
The QLD spirit prevailed .

Would have nothing to do with the fact that he's about 50 would it?

QUEENSLAND’S State of Origin hopes have been rocked by news that champion fullback Billy Slater is out of Origin I with a hamstring injury.

I know, posted in the nsw thread. Might make sense as.....

Queensland's everywheeeeeeeeere!

edit: This is assuming that the report is just another of the qld 'injured player' story that they do every....single.....year.

I am struggling to get very excited about Origin this year and think I've finally worked out the answer. No Thurston, Smith, Cronk, Scott, Thaiday and now Slater means that we're likely to defeat a side that I don't even dislike very much. The only bloke left who really gets under my nose comes from NSW and thinks he's a Queenslander.

QLD could move GI to fb and bring in Corey Oates

Apparently Darius was asked into Camp but decided on an NZ Holiday instead.
So now Kevvie has blacklisted him as a backup😀

Given they have also brought in Milford, I am thinking they might play it safe and put Milford on the bench with Morgan playing fullback. Ponga in camp as injury cover and for the experience.

I think Ponga would be like Munster - he’d take to Origin like a duck to water. I hope they don’t pick him for the Blues’ sake.
