QLD Cup: Sea Eagles quicker out of blocks

SUNSHINE Coast winger Michael Chapman says the Sea Eagles’ slow start to last year’s Queensland Cup season wasn’t discussed much over the off-season.

The Sea Eagles won the premiership in their inaugural year in the competition despite being slow out of the blocks, with just three wins from their first 10 matches.

However, nine wins and a draw from their final 12 matches propelled them into the play-offs, and the rest is history.
Sunshine Coast began its premiership defence last week with a 16-6 away win over Northern Pride in the 2009 grand final rematch.
Another team rated highly by the bookies, the Central Comets, awaits the Sea Eagles at Stockland Park this Saturday afternoon.
“I think Costo (Sunshine Coast coach Brandon Costin) and his staff haven’t mentioned much about it (last year’s slow start) to the boys,” Chapman said yesterday.
“We want to build a platform after that Pride game and we seemed to gel pretty quickly.
“Last year it took us about 10 weeks to do that.”
The Comets’ line-up features Broncos-contracted halfback Ben Hunt.
