Prop on 200K

Smokin Joe

If we had about 200k in the kitty from releasing Meehan, what props would be worth signing or could be released from their clubs that we could afford?(Taking into account that their club may be willing to give them up and even pay a part of their salary)Unsigned guys or Qrl guys too.Personally I don't think we need too,Workers have some decent backups.

Add a bit more and in comes James Graham

Add cap space saved from Snake and Matai, get Matt Scott and then work out what to do with the change.

Maybe Joe Ofahengaue from Broncos, seemed to be on the outer with papa Bennett last year, playing time dwindled and was out of the side. They have added Sims and Dodds this year, maybe he would be interested to move if he isn't going to get game time?Probably not too expensive if they wanted to release him.Don't know if people remember Matt Groat? Not an elite player but went ok,don't know what happened but he moved to UK but has signed with CQ capras for this year.Haven't seen him play in a while but might be ok?

Never been convicted of anything unlike others.fwit yeah .but a proper hard bustard
Yeah hard and tough, could be a signing but I think he wants to try his luck with Brisbane,he is playing for Redcliffe this year.Would have to play Intrust cup this year and hope to be reinstated next year I think....

Telling women tonight's the night they die isn't proper hard. Also:

Lodge was charged with felony burglary causing injury, which carried a maximum 25 years in jail. He later cut a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour count of reckless assault.

but he wasn't on 200K.

NRL would not register him so max he was on was 85K
Are you talking about Meehan or Lodge? But I get your point,it depends if Manly were banking on him making the 25 and what he would be paid,if they were thinking he was going to be a part of the 25 and earning 200k they would have been taking that into account for the cap,but I don't know if they were seriously thinking he was going to be in the top 25.The season hadn't started yet and our 25 man squad maybe wasn't completely confirmed.Do they have to nominate by start of Nov?We could pay him 160K a year and it is part of the second tier cap if he is not in the top 25,and if he does well the second year salary could be 260K plus and be in the 25...

$85,000 is a minimum payment for a top 25 NRL player, there is nothing to stop Redcliff paying him whatever they want.

I think you will find that to play for Manly even NSW cup side we pay him and therefore he would count in the second tier cap and therefore cannot be paid more than the lowest paid top 25 cap player.

The point being that we don't get any cap relief from our top tier cap with him leaving either way, at most a bit of 2nd tier cap space but not 200K

Ok, confusion cleared ... we are talking Meehan. I think other posters have established that our net loss to the 2nd tier is the amount that we have already paid him since the start of the new season (November) which is reported at about $40,000. Obviously as he has willingly left there is no other cap issue.

That amount makes it pretty clear he would have been in our top 25.

Lol,I am still slightly confused(not surprising) but if we had budgeted on him being in the top 25 and playing for the year would not we have left room for his salary for the year?Maybe 160K? Or is this where other clubs are getting caught out with the cap and going over because the situation is changing week to week?

Yeah you are correct, the only amount that counts in our 2017 cap is the amount we have already paid him... if we had factored in another say $160,000 that should be avail.
