i absolutely despise the broncos but what about the crop of youngsters they have got.

norman, hoffman, gillette, teo, yeo yee,mccullough,winterstien,macguire.....unbelieveable how quickly they have come on.some of that stuff today was sublime and most are only 19 or 20.just shows these young blokes are so confident these days.give them a dozen games and they play like veterans.id love to have teo and gillette in our backrow stocks.no halves though which seems a common theme- ben hunt seems to have come up short.

stark contrast to buerher not being trusted with 5 minutes of game time.at least the injuries have allowed whare and hoppa to get a taste and they look pretty good.

i hate to say it but add hodges, falou, lockyer and thaiday to these guys and they are a real threat to saints.their speed is sensational.we seem pedestrian in comparison but our big game experience may give us a chance but they do look to have us covered.

They just have such a huge area / demographic worth of kids to choose from. They'll always have a better farm than us, and really, there's nothing we can really do about it, except have a face in QLD, which we have now.

That being said, Bennett was pretty ruthless when there as well, and there was a huge code of loyalty adhered to. So much so, if a player signed elsewhere, they'd most probably end up playing the then reggies for the rest of the year.

We need to hold our players accountable here. Yes, Hodko may be fair to good for us for the rest of the year, but we then have to blood someone new the following year when Brett and co. are back.

Lets be Bronco like going forward.

That means going forward with our future in mind. Use our farm. Put Riccardi or Cherry-Evans on the bench, and interchange Hodko when able.

In fact, I'd look at bringing in Tasi for a shot instead of Buhrer, although I believe he may have signed with The Roosters as well.

yep id love to have a look at DCE in NRL.Only seen him at toyota cup level.Im tied up with burliegh bears and those guys gave him a wrap 2 weeks ago(40 nil).

unfortunately in the modern interchange game having a halfback on the field and bench just doesnt happen so has to be TH or DCE,not both.Agree that if we fall out of contention then the change needs to be made.Until then we just have to hope both TH and KF can lift when our players come back.

Cooper Cronk is on the bench for QLD mate....

A farm system is generally put to the test by, well, courageous coaches. Too be fair, Des is probably the opposite of that, but this style of coaching also has its benefits as well (conservative I mean).

The Broncs and us are in very different situations as well. Pre-season, expectation was low for them, where as expectation was very high for us in my opinion.

I kind of really wish Lyon / Foran worked really well this year in hindsight. With the emergence of Whare, we could have had:-

03. Steve Matai
04. Dean Whare
06. Jamie Lyon
07. Keiran Foran

Now, add Brett Stewart, and the Wolfman to that next year with Robbo, we'd have a very well balanced team in my opinion. If the unfortunate happens, and we are without Brett for whatever reason, Hoppa or Farrar can come in...but I'd love to see Hoppa bulk up and grow this off season.

Really, I think our farm system is now quite strong. The use of it at times is the issue.

cronk is a test player who could play almost anywhere.fits into qld team perfectly .and it taken him till this year to get that gig.

no side in the nrl carries two specialist halfbacks in the 17 and i cant remember it ever happening in recent years unless the bloke was covering as a hooker.

there is no way des will have both in the 17 while we are in contention.it would be ridiculous.hell pick the best man for the job and the other will be on sunshine coast.

At the detrement of 2011 then imo mate. We need to pretty well gel straight away next year (we just can't have a shaky start again). We aren't winning a premiership with a centre/winger playing fullback, 2 rookie 1/2's with only a handful of games under their belts, a backrower on the wing, riddled with season ending, and long term injuries etc etc...

Lets get these combination's working nice and early. It's not like we are currently winning, so throwing them in there is not really going to hurt....never know...we may even have a diamond in the rough with one of them.....

Hodko can then get 1st grade match fitness when he's at his new club.

we are on a different page ryan as i still believe we are a chance (with luck with injuries ) of giving this comp a shake.what i saw when we beat saints and melbourne with TH and KF as halves tells me we are in the hunt to win this thing.

to start throwing blokes in  to help them next year at this stage presupposes failure and as yet i havent given up hope.and i bet dessie hasnt iether so you wont see to 20 year old halfbacks in the same team.

saints, broncos look great but we aint gone just yet.

when we are gone des will have a look at options im sure but that is a long way off.

I cannot see what Bhurer adds to our bench at the moment.

For the 5 minutes that he gets on the field surely we would be better off with 5 minutes from someone like Junior Palua who at least might make an impact.

I agree that we need to drop TH if he is gone as soon as possible but whilst we are still in the hunt then we have to give it our best as our pack hasnt got too many years left

You know what though mate....most people said the same thing about Glenn Stewart when he was introduced initially to the team.

I dunno, I reckon early Buhrer has a lot of early G Stewie about him....

Same I think he'll come good. I think he'll be a handy bench player in the future with his ability to play a few roles in the team.

I think we're still a chance too, we're still in a position to get a top four spot. It's just with all the youngsters in the team no-one has really stood up in the backs. We'll be a lot more solid with Matai/Lyon back in the centres and all this contract rubbish wrapped up.

My backline for the rest of the year:-

01. Ben Farrar
02. William Hopoate
03. Steve Matai
04. Dean Whare
05. Michael Robertson
06. Jamie Lyon
07. Keiran Foran

I seriously think this will get us more creativity in attack. We look pedestrian at present, and Hodkinson just looks lost out there. If we were retaining him, I'd stick with him to play out of the funk, but to have a 1/2 who can tackle, and that's it....we need more...

Give Lyon the ball at every opportunity.

Also, get T-Rex into that backrow.....he'll be devastating up the guts against lethargic forwards...and I'm betting he'd have a decent offload or two in him...

Speed up our backline.

I'm with you on 90% of what you said. I wonder if 1. Hoppa 2. Farrar would be stronger though?
