"That hill on a Sunday arvo…I will never forget those times. Some games there on a Sunday, they (the fans) really got us home. Bowing down was my thank you to them. I got emotional about half way around the lap. I told my nieces and nephews to hurry up. I could feel a couple of tears close to coming out, so I quickened up the pace a little bit. It was just really good to thank the Manly fans because they were so instrumental and so good in my career."

"It was good to say thank you to the Manly fans. They have given me a lot of support and strength over the years. It was my chance to thank them for everything they have done for me. Many probably don’t know what their support did for me during my career. I am forever grateful for it. The Manly fans and everyone around the community stuck by me through thick and thin. Sunday was my chance to thank them and I thoroughly enjoyed it."

Good on ya Snake. If only the media who judges people by sensationalising rumours and choosing unsuspecting people to become heroes or villains, saw people for who they really are, vulnerable human beings, and in this case, also, a champion.
Wasn't there on Saturday but it meant a lot to me that Snake was.

At the game i thought he looked like he just wanted to get it over and done with however on reflection after reading that it was obviously very emotional for him and something that he appreciated. One of the all time Manly greats and there have been plenty.

That try he mentioned against the Tigers at Brookvale was one of the best moments. I remember being on the hill for that.

Not at Brookie, not even a Manly win (I remember this day watching on the TV.....), but this was one of the best tries I saw Snake score. A nice length of the field effort that shows what great speed he had before the injuries hit. This was 2008.

He'd already made a few long runs during the game, primarily chasing Amos Roberts who killed us that day with intercepts. But to grab this ball cleanly in the conditions, then sprint off downfield with everyone but the cops chasing him......they couldn't get near him.

Snake is a permanent legend of our club and a shining example of fighting hard and overcoming serious adversity that would break many of us. Seeing him smiling and acknowledging the crowd was amazing. Don't be a stranger snake, you are part of our clubs DNA!!

I like looking back at the tries he scored really early in his career...you see this pretzel who just rang rings around everyone and you knew something special had arrived. Funny thing about his speed was that although he lost a heap in 09-10, he came back and was still quicker than most over the first 20-30m. His reading of the play usually got him there 10 yards before anyone else as well I might add.

The drama around his career just made him even more compelling to watch and he is the most special Eagle since Beaver's time, with Tooves and Cliffy a generation each behind those, give or take the crossover periods.

The "Hand of God" was that much more special because he made Benji look like an idiot. Mostly Benji does that himself these days, but back then it was priceless.
