I haven't noticed any recent mention that we lost our two preseason matches.

Yeah. The Brisbane Lions found that out. They won the preseason comp then got flogged by some apparent easy-beat team in the first round when it really counted.

I agree, trials are just that. Tooves gives everyone a run to show and reward their hard work in the off season. Also, a final chance to sway his mind. Lawrence was known as working his butt off from day one. So was Gower and both got starts.
