I understood DCE to have said prior to this season that he hadn't made a decision about his playing future beyond this year and would decide during the season. We signed young Hughes and Large and started planning for the future after DCE. Why then would Manly make him an offer for another contract not knowing whether he was playing on. I reckon that he has already made a deal and will be playing for a club on the other side of the bridge. That way he doesn't have to relocate his family. Money money money. He is not the first to chase a large final pay check and won't be the last. Time for Manly to move into the future.

The Sea Eagles announced late on Monday night that CEO Tony Mestrov would address the media on Tuesday about Cherry-Evans' decision


This will be interesting. Will this be Mestrov and Manly trying to cover their useless arses or throwing out an olive branch.

Let’s not forget , Cherry Evans is the absolute master at playing this game ( him & his manager ).

Mestrov seems to be an excellent operator , he’s done really well in his tenure to date.

Looking at both interviews , I’m of the belief that DCE has played them beautifully.

It’s just an opinion and yours will ( can) differ.

But to me every part of this is being lead by DCE and he’s doing this to make him appear to be the one aggrieved ( they have me no choice 😂😂😂) and when he signs the Roosters 3 million for two years , coaching position afterwards , Channel 9 deal ( all organised by Uncle Nick ) the fans will say “ ****ing Manly stuffed this up big time “.

As I said he’s playing it beautifully.

He is not sure that he will play next season but if he does he is sure it will not be with us

So DCE said on 100% footy that he had spoken to the club as far back as December last year (having come off contract on 30/11/2024).

If he told the club he would be hanging up the boots at the end of 2025, why would the club make an offer to him to continue playing?

If he told the club he would wait to see how he felt before making a decision beyond 2025, should the club have made an offer or should they have waited until other offers were made towards him?

If no offer was made by the club, where did the "1 year vs 2 year" & Andrew Johns' "$600k offer" debate come from?

It's all very murky for sure.

I may stand corrected, but I understood DCE in December advised the club of an intention to play on. (Not to leave the club) Prior too that retirement was a possibility.

There has clearly been discussions between DCE and the club over him staying in January. Figures discussed. Note DCE's words carefully No formal offer from the club.

I do think DCE going down that Manly haven't offered me a formal offer path on TV is poor.

Discussions about what the club have or are willing too spend and what DCE is willing to play on for haven't aligned. That's all.

No different to the Gifty ending. Some might even say fitting.

Things were clearly being discussed on Sunday, I remember seeing Seibs face when Brent Read started asking DCE questions about next year in the presser. Never seen Seibs so nervous as to what the turtle would say. But was thinking club and him working on it, devostated he will play for another club.

I just think it's sad if DCE doesn't end up a one club player.

I suspect Browns recent 10 year contract and Pongas said 2 mill a year, and that clubs are now desperate for a 7 and will throw the $$$ is obvious. The turtle confident if not already has a contract for a nice big juicy sum way more than Man can afford.

On the surface, it seemed to me that Manly had made an absolute mess of this situation.

Just watched the 100% interview and I'm not so sure now it was a complete stuff up by the club.

Lots of fumbling from DCE including contradictions of his own words from only moments before and of course the obvious stuttering when attempting to make his point. He also seemed very nervous and he never shows nerves in interviews.

I don't believe there is much point going into who said what. Body language to me is a very large indicator of the situation. So yeah, I have strong doubts now about the story DCE is attempting to put forward.

Plenty of media over the last week were indicating that they couldn't see him leaving a club where he could complete his NRL career with one of the greatest legacies. Clubs have also come out today saying they haven't bothered as the believed the same thing. They were all wrong it seems!

Never thought I would say this but maybe Choc was right?
