Positives from Penrith game ??

Just based on personal opinion, was there any lights on perfomances or moments in that big loss ??

Heres a few things I thought were good and keen to see a few more....

  • Garrick is an improved player....seen him take up some serious ugly hitups and actually bent the line a few times with powerful surges.
  • Big Guoc 3 times trampled over Lui on that right edge and didn't seem phased by the Penrith bully tactics - 1 of few
  • Saab maybe 12 foot tall, but those pinpoint kicks were land ing with Kikau and co screaming through at 100moh and though got absolutely smashed, he kept leaping high and making the catches under pressure, with little protection fron team mates
  • Bullymore had some average defence with grabs and misses, but damn he was fast on that support try off Turbo, thought it was Garrick he was moving that quick, I suspect he will score plenty of long range tries by seasons end off the bench
  • Started with promise early in the game

Yep liked the points above @maxta

I thought we matched the early forward battle until the turnovers and 6 agains.

No injuries was a good thing.

Koula making his debut and getting game time against the best side in the comp.

Just need to complete our sets next week and not give away stupid 6 agains.

Learned that Jake can ball distribute capably from dummy half. Thus, at present there is no need for two utilities on bench. Lawton's spot can be taken by a bigger bodied more powerful backrower.

Considering all the errors we made and the amount of pressure Penrith put us under, only conceding 28 was actually a pretty good effort. The goal line defence in the first half hour or so did looked improved but it’s impossible to keep that up for a whole game when everyone is gassed.

Saab did do well under the high ball but it was clearly a tactic by Penrith as they knew he wouldn’t break the line and our sets would never be able to get started. The backs did take some tough runs off our line but really couldn’t go anywhere so I’d like to see the front rowers getting back there and occasionally taking one up. Although it’s a bit hard regardless when the other team is in their face straight away and barely getting back the 10 metres each play

Manly competitive for the i st 20 had to be a positive . Haumole and foran strong efforts , Jake a defensive pillar in the middle again , Bullemor showing some serious potential . Paseka and Keppie good in patches wingers did well under pressure . Wish that there were more positives and unfortunately a lot of problems to address also .

Also took a lot of gas out of Saab. In a preseason interview he said last year Garrick did a lot of the back field work which kept him fresh for his scintillating sprinting. So a good tactic for a few reasons. One we need to think about.

Positive from the game

I had to watch it in the caravan with my wife in bed at one end so I really had to contain myself on the swearing department.

It’s why at home we have a big screen telly in a media room with soundproof walls , I go in , close the door and I can rant and rave as much as I like whilst she’s watching Netflix.

Big positives to me were:-

yes we kept hanging on, we scrambled well.. we certainly didn't give up but the consistent effort (consistent being the key word) especially from most of the forwards was very very questionable

82% completion - that is amazing given the huge defensive workload

yes Saab under the high ball - he looked uneasy at times but gee to have that Panthers left side charging down on him with every kick.. that took some courage and he defused them all

Bullemor showed us something

No injuries

I think it was Brad Clyde that prides himself in always being the first forward back to take the first hit after a kick return. Perhaps we need one of our forwards to adopt this approach. Bullemor looks like a Clyde type. Our wingers getting pegged back (Saab mainly) was a clear strategy they used so hope Des looks at ways to address it. No reason one of the forwards can’t start dropping back on the 5th as the ball is kicked.

Haha wish I had that. My wife just wonders who I'm talking to when I'm carrying on during a game watching it by myself. The rest of the family disappears. The swearing is truly horrendous.

When we built the new house this was a “ must have “. I get a bit feral during a game , but then I go quiet and get morose .
