We gained (and in one case have since lost):

Lewis Brown (Panthers), Addin Fonua-Blake (St Merge), Pita Godinet (Wakefield), Nathan Green (St Merge), Issac John (Panthers), Api Koroisau (Panthers), Darcy Lussick (Speels), Tim Moltzen (Tigpies), Nate Myles (Titans), Matt Parcell (Broncos), Martin Taupau (Tigpies), Siosaia Vave (Sharks), Dylan Walker (Souffs) and Matthew Wright (NQ).

Justin Horo i will admitt his form was down ! But on his day was a solid footballer !

I reckon Horo was our best forward last year, maybe 2nd best behind Jake.

And Mason never let us down.

Would gladly swap Myles and Brown for Mason and Horo. I'd imagine cap savings would be around $400K.

I was howled down when I posted this about 2 months ago BUT I'm still of the belief that this is year 1 in a 5 year plan to get to another set of Grand Finals.

Much as we did back in 2005-6, some of those players didn't get to play in our 2007-08 Grand Final appearances, and ditto many of the current players won't when I hope we will make the GF's in about 2020-21 ( just hope I'm alive to see it happen).

I think we all know our key signings this year were Marty and for one with promise Matt Parcell (I'm still of the belief he'll play for QLD one day).

Nate Myles, signed probably to pacify DCE, Brown / Api signed probably on Barrett's say so.

And no doubt many of the players discarded were discarded due to their loyalty to the previous coach, its been part of a very very painful cleaning out that Penn, Bozo, ZtH and co wanted to happen...right or wrong I guess they pay the bills!

Of our 3 aging superstars, 1 has announced that this is his last year, I imagine Brett "might" follow as he's just not keeping up with the pace of the game these days and of course the constant injuries issue, if he doesn't I'd suggest regardless of loyalties there will be a tap on the shoulder and yes possibly we will have to be paying some of his salary in 2017.

Skivvy I think might be moved on as well, (and we might or might not have to pay there as well) so I'm thinking round 25 at Brookvale will see the departure of the last players from the 2007-08 Grand Finals, and naturally a very emotional and sad day regardless of the win/loss on the day itself.

I don't see 2017 being a whole lot better than 2016, when our "big 3" go it will be a hell of a hole to fill (regardless of their current performances), so its still part of the rebuild situation, although a lot will depend on how either our young stars in waiting step up, or how we recruit, salary cap dependant.

I think we will need to wait until 2018 for some consistently better performances, which I know irks you "instant gratification" younger set, but as we have seen with the 2-3 front runners it doesn't just happen overnight.

I'm a bit more patient than many of you, I guess age does that to you, and I never expected instant success in 2016.......a new team, a brand new coach, it was never going to happen.

If this keep up in 5 years we'll be the gosford goblins...

Dunamis Lui has got a bench spot for the dragons ! I believe Dragons have got one of the best packs in the comp !

Cant get a run at Manly ! He also killed in the 2014 SF against the DOGS ! All these alleged reserve graders knew how to step it up come finals time !

Or maybe, just maybe they had a coach who had won plenty of semi's, a premiership and a World Cup as a captain/player along with Semi Finals every season and 2 premierships as an assistant coach add to that a GF appearance as a coach. Maybe he knew how to get them to perform in the big games.

Gains:
Kapow - solid without being spectacular. If we had a fully fit squad I think he would be used slightly different which would benefit him.
Parcell - Awesome. This kid has talent and should be our #9 for many years to come.
Myles - does his job but I think would be better suited to coming off the bench.
Brown - Garbage!!!! This guy adds nothing at all. I don't care if he makes 40+ tackles a game, he misses half a dozen on average and is always good for a dropped ball or 2 and a penalty. Hoping somebody like Knights or Titans can take him off us before June 30
Api - Has looked OK in patches. I think his form warrants a spot in the 17 but most probably off the bench to add some spark at the end of each halves.
Walker - 100% he's a centre. If Barrett persists with him at 5/8 we will finish the season outside the 8. The rare occasions when he has looked good have been when he's had early ball out wide and can get 1 on 1 with a defender. He's not a playmaker.
Losses:
I don't really care about guys not at manly anymore but I think Gutherson deserves a mention. He's realised his potential at the Eels, hopefully he comes back to Manly one day.

Geoff Toovey and our football department were trying to focus all our $$$ on retaining FOZ, DCE and developing fringe first graders into Finals MACHINES ! We can excuse them for trying to retain the best halves combo in the game !

Yes Dunamis Lui, Hasson, Horro, Starling, Wille Mason, Brenton Lawrence, Zane Tetavano, Richie Faosso etc, were not test players,

But if they can be developed into Manly blooded finals specialists eg 2014 SF, then who's complaining ??? while we retain the best halves in the comp ?
