I am sure the NRL audits players tax documents, so for this to work it would have to be undeclaired money, hence to payments on match day.

I dont know but if my boss said to me "We are going to pay you 25% of your weekly pay after work, oh and by the way don't claim it on tax and dont tell anyone." I think I would guess something was up.

I think its the case that the NRL is unable to access players tax return doucuments

Yeah apparrently in the next deal with the RLPA they want to change it so they can see players tax returns. Though there are concievably privacy issues - i.e. Money from investments etc.

So concievably players could have been claiming everything on tax.
