Player Wage Speculation

And why it is a load of crap (caution rant ahead)

One paragraph which should highlight why it is such a useless exercise stating “oh player x is on 200k which means that is now free for next year”

From the dogs drama at the moment

Eastwood and the Morris twins, who are off contract this year, release $2.2 million but that money has already been largely taken up by back-ended deals and ratchet clauses for players contracted to the club in 2019.

Which why is so impossible to get a handle on the clubs cap space at any time (not forgetting 3rd party deals)

End rant

I can't fully understand the benefit of releasing players to free up cap space.
Unless you really do have cap space and just want to get rid of them.
You still have to pay for them to a fair degree as in Myles.
So if you are stretched for space then still paying for them restricts your ability to replace.
As the Morris's and Eastwood are off contract and the money will go to back ended deals it's the same effect but that's the legacy of Des.
At least we got two premierships out of it which I wouldn't trade, even though it's largely responsible for where we have been financially since.
I wonder if the dogs think Toddy's underhanded tactics in recruiting Des were such a great idea now.

Releasing players only helps if those players are in demand and the buying club agrees to pay the going rate.
Which is exactly what the media is beating up about Marty.
But in the dogs case they are , even if they release the like of Klem and Jackson will still be up for probably 800K for both so they are faced with having to have a heap of players on 100K minimum wage.
I would normally rejoice in their misery but this time I don't cause I know that greenturd caused it ultimately, and the sh*t we've been through.
I hate that c*nt.
I hope some of their loonies hate him as much.

As one poster asked recently: why can't the NRL pay all the players, thus keeping an exact record of Cap expenditure? This would include TPAs negotiated by player managers. Any player found to be accepting TPAs outside those recorded would be suspended for the period it took to have the deal/s officially recorded.
Thus, the NRL would/should know the exact financial position of each club and all the TPAs. They wouldn't then have to give clubs a grant every season for player salaries.

My only guess would be a threat of restraint of trade from the clubs (or a fear of it similar to what happened when the draft got shelved)

How did all these contracts get approved by the nrl? Simple calculations would have pointed out the issues ahead. I understand Des and Dibs set this up but did Toddy sign these off? Surely he bent the rules by allowing this, the nrl have an obligation to keep each team compliant and also viable going forward... the buck stops with theNRL and mr Greenburg, why haven't the media asked him how this slipped under their radar hmmmmm.

Let’s face it the NRL and their inspection team are nothing less than shambolic.

In every single case where a team had been busted what’s the common denominator??

Yep, a whistle blower!!

They haven’t discovered ONE case of major non compliance yet on their own accord.

The NRL lost their calculator and the dog ate their paperwork....
