The Redcliffe Dolphins have announced the re-signing of Jamil Hopoate for the 2019 season.

Hopoate won the "Lock of the Year" Award at the QRL's gala dinner this year which was a fitting accolade for the robust number 13.

In his first season with the Dolphins, Hopoate played in every game and was a major influence in the final series which culminated in the club's 2018 premiership win.

Hopoate was regularly named in QRL Media's 'Team of the Week' segment, after enjoying a breakout season.

Dolphins General Manager of Football Grant Cleal said Hopoate had produced a great season for the club in 2018.

"When you consider he moved up here to play for the Dolphins while his partner and baby daughter remained in Sydney, it was a huge leap and a big commitment by his entire family," Cleal said.

"That commitment to the team, club and his own performance was also rewarded with a full preseason with the club's affiliate the Brisbane Broncos.

"We are really happy that he has earned the opportunity to impress in town, he won't let anyone down at that level," Cleal said.

Jamil Hopoate 2018 statistics:

- Tries: 7
- Average Run M: 131m
- Post Contact M: 1008m
- Tackle Breaks: 79
- Offloads: 22
- Tackles: 647

I thought he went alright but left as nrl blocked his path? Now is in broncos 30 man squad? Different rules i guess apply for the Broncos

I don't know the whole truth regarding him being blocked last year... but it was mostly Jamil's own fault. Hopefully he stays on the straight and narrow.

A shame as he would walk have walked into our NRL squad some years ago. As a footballer he is basically a younger and less injury prone version of Anthony Watmough.

That .. ahem .. “Mormon mission” he went on kept him out for a while.

I’d be happy for him to come back to manly

Yes thanks Greenturd no pathway for Manly with Jamil but the welcome mat thrown down and a hearty come on in and slap on the back when it comes to Broncos
U make me sick Greenturd u charelton

Jamil will eventually return to NRL and will I believe be effective for whatever club he choses. He's a talented young footballer, who allowed stupidity to deny him of success at Manly. He'll be back. He's too good for second division

Yep if you play for Manly the answer is no, but elsewhere it's ok? Makes sense to me, not surprised.

Always been a supporter of Jamil. I've always thought he had talent untapped. He paid his penance for his vicious stupidly far more than most in the game. And I do wish he was at Manly

Where does it say that he has earned a Bronco contract?

"That commitment to the team, club and his own performance was also rewarded with a full preseason with the club's affiliate the Brisbane Broncos."
