Beattie was and probably always will be the type of blinkered , narrow and petty thinking and rusted on Bronco supporter which most objective league followers find really unacceptable and will always have a bias against the so called Manly Silvertails club , irrespective of the actual reality . No doubt a successful politician [ but hardly a badge of honour ] and in large part resulting from a long term , one nation induced fractured conservative vote in Queensland . Really can not see him as a sound or suitable appointment and unfortunately similar to Greenbery , has an intrinsic opportunist mentality .His wife is a very much respected figure though , maybe she might have been a better choice as an N R l administrator .

The administration of our game is in disarray . Our governing body doesn't even have it own vision for the future and will do what ever the broadcasters want. Lets just reconcile what Beattie said with the NRL's published primary objectives:

1. be the single controlling body and administrator of the Game;
2. foster, develop, extend and provide adequate funding for the Game from the junior to elite levels and generally to act in the best interests of the Game;
3. liaise with and delegate appropriate functions to governing bodies of the Game in the States and Territories of Australia, including the NSWRL and QRL;
4. organise and conduct all State of Origin and Australian Representative Games;
5. organise, conduct and foster the NRL Competition;
6. liaise with the Rugby League International Federation Limited and organisations controlling the game in other countries in the fostering and control of the game of Rugby League throughout the world;
7. promote and encourage either directly or indirectly the physical, cultural and intellectual welfare of young people in the community and, in particular, the Rugby League community;
8. promote and encourage either directly or indirectly sport and recreation, particularly Rugby League football, in the interests of the social welfare of young persons. The NSW, Queensland and Country Rugby Leagues remain separate entities under the Commission The single controlling body of the game - hardly.
