Penn fires back at Sea Eagles critics

Club Management & Hierarchy was a shambles before the Penn's took over so laying the blame totally on them is a bit rich! During the Hasler / Toovey era there was continuous drama & in fighting. I don't know who to blame or what's going to happen, however if the Penn's go I think we go as well! Everyone has an opinion.......no previous coach has complained about the facilities & were pretty well successful. I was always siding with Barrett, however after seeing his blank expression & attitude in the coaches box during the 2nd half on Friday night the sooner he goes the better! The Media hacks despise Manly & will do anything to dig up dirt & embellish it to make it look worse than it is.Unfortunately too many people believe every word they say! I guess the whole truth will eventually come out!

The Penn's are not stupid. They are clever & ruthless businessmen. The reason the club is being allowed to fail / reach crisis point would be part of a plan. As mark said - there is an end game.
It's premeditated & unstoppable.
I strongly doubt clever business is to purchase an NRL club and operate it at a loss for the better part of decade because they want to see us get relocated to the other side Australia so much?! I've heard people mention this ulterior motive many times on the forum and I don't get it?! They could find plenty of other strategic business opportunities that are far simpler and less damaging to their brand then running a football club into the ground...

Plus Todd has said that the nrl are not looking to move a team to Perth in the foreseeable future.

As I understand selling of the leagues club has funded any moneys' put in by the owners but I could be wrong on this. The Penn's don't seem to be passionate football club owners like say Russel Crowe. So why own a club & let it slide. We had grants to patch up Brookie but nothing has happened despite Zorba constantly pushing the agenda that the place is an overpriced cow shed. The redevelopment plan for brookie has probably something to do with it. I'd imagine a lot of money to be made if it ever happens. Anyway, I refuse to believe that the owners have no plans. Again, they are not stupid. They have built a business empire but knowing exactly what they want to do & how to do it.

Of course it could be as simple as the club seeing we were going to struggle with the cap, roster this year and have decided to defer investment as late as possible

Yep possibly, could have been waiting on the outcome of the appeal before they approve hire of additional staff... COO Neil Bare was stood down for 12 months and hiring someone new means that if the appeal was successful and Neil was reinstated then what do you do with the incumbent? Could just be looking to wrap up the appeal process first as that will dictate the funding for 2019 and with that the organisational structure?

Anyway back to my sausage roll and sauce as i wouldn't know anything anyway, being just a member and all

Sorry too little too late penn
Don’t trust one word coming out of your mouth
Great to see the passion but where has it been for the past 3 years
Where is your strategic direction and plan for the club?
You and your mate zorba have totally destroyed this club and alienated so many good hard and passion supporters and members due to your attitude in running the place.

I thought we were in trouble a few years ago when Barrett brought over Lewis Brown with him, we all knew Lewis' time in the NRL was past him, so WTF happened when they signed him up for three years , as well as Myles

"We" never had any grants for redevelopment, that money was available to the owners of the ground, the council. We are a key stakeholder but do not have control or a vote on that matter.

I've been one who has not bagged Twenty, preferring to give him a chance.
One thing a coach must be able to do is inspire his players to maximum effort. There have been several matches where I've seen each player busting their gut, particularly in defence.
I was pleased to see how resolute the team was against Cronulla and the Dogs two weeks running.
But Twenty really let everyone associated with the club down on Friday night. That was a weak, lilly-livered performance from the majority of our 17. It made me feel sick, and I'm sure those sentiments where shared by the Turbos, Joel and Cherry.
Twenty gave up on the team last week, and those in the 17 who play without pride were given an easy out. After all, why should they tackle when their coach is a sook?
We do have many players just here for the paycheck. It's also obvious that we have a coach and an assistant coach here for the same reason.
Twenty lost me on Friday night. The club's owners and administration lost me a lot earlier.
As I see it the only hope we have is a radical overhaul of ownership, coaching staff and cleanout of paycheck players.

Look its good that Scott Penn has finally said something, that the fans needed to hear. I think his failure to speak up until now has been a major concern. No one doubts the financial commitment this family have put into the Sea Eagles. But to me the ball has been dropped in a number of areas which Penn should have been on top of.

1. The team has been a disaster this year. I know injuries have been savage and there has been the salary cap issue, but they took a hard line on Toovey, they should have been just as diligent with Barrett and especially the defensive coaching. Its their business. You just don't allow the problem to increase unattended.

2. Scott needs to clarify the Brookvale Oval issue. I know that's not his responsibility, but its affecting the status of the Sea Eagles, crowds, conditions etc. There has been promise of funding to improve the ground for years, yet where is it and who is holding onto it? Interest alone could would be in the $100,000s per year. Where is it? Is someone using it fraudulently? Is it being diverted to other programmes? I know this has nothing to do with the Penns but having serious vested interests in the ground, they need to be demanding action.

3. The club need to be responding firmly to media allegations, and putting journos in their place if they are being misquoted. There needs to be a firm PR action so that fans know where the likely truth lies. The crowds are diminishing not only because of the poor performances, but also because of the bad press. Don't blame the fans for responding to what they hear. If you don't come out and clearly state what is happening, rumours and innuendoes will flourish. Fans can only know what they are being told, and if its all from the vested interests of journos who hate Manly, then what do you expect fans to think

4. You need to show proactive action over the off season to give fans heart that Manly is on the rise again. Its your business, and the fans are the most important ingredient you have, so you must ensure they can see something worthwhile to look forward to. Getting angry at their negative responses is just stabbing yourself in the back. You need the fans on side. Do a decent PR job to win them back and tell Zorba to stop blaming the fans for the predicament that has nothing to do with them.
