Why the successful Peninsula Seagulls aren’t fielding a team in 2017

THEY have been one of the most successful footy teams on the northern beaches but the Peninsula Seagulls have had their wings clipped.

The club’s founders, former first grade stars Gary Pethybridge and Steve Gearin, have revealed the Seagulls will not be competing in next year’s Sydney Shield rugby league competition.

“We would have been financially sound but it is resources, pure and simple,” Pethybridge said.

So could this be a part of the reason why Blacktown Workers was picked over the locals?
Were they told of the current plight of the Peninsula Sea Eagles earlier than has been now reported in the media?

Its not a by product of the creation of Sea Eagles reserve grade now being located at Blacktown is it? I assume a pathway from Seagulls to NSW cup was still available?

They have had a money problem from the start. Most unfortunate because they seemed a real bright spot on the Peninsula.
