Payne Haas

Recent quotes from Mestrov state we would likely be interested in Payne Haas if he goes to market for the 2027 season, as we will have a lot of salary cap space becoming available.

I personally believe it’s a million to one shot for us to sign Haas, but what it does suggest is that Jake and potentially Tom will be on reduced deals in 2027.

It also shows that we recognise we need an improved middle and a top front rower to take the team to the next level. Something we’ve been banging on about in this forum for a while now.

Regardless of whether you think we will sign Haas, I like the thought of us being active in the player market at the top end again.

Who else would be on your list if Haas was no chance?

Fairly clear to most that Manly has needed more oomph in the engine room.
When Seibold was signed the first thing we did was make a play for Flegler. Since then we've tried Lodge (didn't work out) and now TKO (as a short term fix.)
I agree its good to know Manly recognises we need more up front.

I started a thread a while ago about 2027 onward being the "real premiership window"

We need a few things to happen (and not limited to)

1. At least one of the "kids" to come through in the halves and start playing at a high level (such as DCE and Foz early in their careers)
2. Tom and Jake to take significantly reduced deals
3. The money saved from DCE going and the Trbjoevic's taking reduced deals to sign two marquee names in the forwards.

We know that 17 teams will be interested in Haas, but as you say it's good to see Manly on the front foot.

Moale & Pahulu are free to sign for 2026 & for 2027 still off contract Tuku Hau Tapuha, Naufahu Whyte & Xavier Va’a are all good promising young players. Out of all them I’d like Whyte the most but he is also probably the most unlikely

Seriously????

He signed a 10 year lifetime deal with the Titans in 2023. His deal ends in 2033.
What's a contact worth these days XV-1? More chance of winning a premiership with Manly than GC, and I like to dream big 😁

Can't imagine Haas ever relocating from Brisbane, given he's the legal guardian of all of his younger siblings, due to his parents both being otherwise disposed.
