Midday sports news on 2GB had a report that a bookie supended betting due to manly being over the salary cap , Gallops response no they are not. Anyone know anything ?

This has been on going for a few days. It's just a rumour started because Penn went for a meeting with Schubert to discuss various issues about next year and how to handle things.

Basically it was due to bull**** rumours, which were discussed here last week, and now the NRL have confirmed no issues as far as they are currently concerned. Betting is expected to re-open soon.

Yeah it was people hearing the rumours and trying to cash in with a little bet here and there. It is when you see a few thousand sunk on those bets that you get suspicious

Manly co-owner Scott Penn said he was bewildered by rumours the club was set to be docked points for a past salary cap breach and put the speculation down to the meeting with Schubert to discuss some issues about next season's playing roster. ''It seems amazing that you can't go to the NRL to see Ian Schubert without people finding out,'' Penn told Sin Bin. ''There was nothing sinister in it, it was just to talk about some issues relating to 2012 but apparently it has ended up in a blog somewhere.'' Rumours circulating yesterday suggested the Sea Eagles were under investigation for a salary cap breach in 2007 and TAB Sportsbet spokesman Matt Jenkins said the betting agency had taken a series of unusual bets. ''They weren't big bets but it was unusual so we suspended betting on that market,'' he said. ''The market may reopen today.''

That's not right at all. I have it on good authority (ie. I have completely made it up) that Penn was there to see if we could let DCE go and resign Orford and get the long serving player concessions even though he hasn't played at Manly for the past few seasons.

The answer was that the NRL will consider it if Brett Stewart apologies to David Gallop for being innocent.

Eagles contemptous of salary cap rumour

THE Sea Eagles said on Tuesday they refused to dignify, with any reaction, the scurrilous rumour that the club was over the salary cap.

And an NRL spokesman responded by saying: “This is just another rumour that people shouldn’t take any notice of.”

The untrue story apparently began circulating when Sea Eagles officials Scott Penn, David Perry and coach Des Hasler were spotted going into an ordinary meeting at the NRL last week.

TAB Sportbet spokesman Matt Jenkins said the rumours were going around on forums and they saw a few bets on Manly missing the eight.

“It wasn’t anything major but there were a few rumours flying around that Manly had breached the cap and maybe some punters were just trying to get the overs,” Jenkins said.

TAB Sportsbet took the precaution of suspending all markets on teams missing the eight last Thursday. They also informed the NRL what they had done.

Jenkins said they would keep the market on all betting to miss the eight down this week because of all the Origin players going around in tonight’s decider.

“It will go back after the next round,” Jenkins said.
