Our rookie coach shows his nervous hand early

I've been one of Barrett's biggest critics but I like the squad he's sending. He can't let last seasons injury toll affect the team and his decisions. Get the team primed and ready for a good start, we need to start hot due to the amount of home games we have early on.
If injuries hit again, that's just bad luck.

Why put a near full strength side out for a poxy trial, risking big time injuries to key players? No coach in their right mind none does that. McGuire is too wily and experienced - na he puts out a weakened side to give some young guys a run.
Barrett is massively nervous - it reeks of that. This is a really bad sign.
We need to start a new sack baz thread.. 🙂

They train to play. They trail to work on combinations. Resting players that need work is the worst thing you could do. Dose round 1 last year ring any under done bells??

Umm...He's named 24 players.

Turbo and DCE need a hit out after off season ops (? ) and Green needs to play with his new teammates
Tom Wright, Schuster, Cullen, Lussick showed enough in the nine's to warrant decent game time which I'm sure they'll get - so there's cover for
DCE, Turbo, Green, Walker etc
Godinet has utility value
Bainbridge is just about ready top step up so prop rotation with BJ
Lane, Amone backrow subs

I'd hazard a guess that the young blokes have been training well and they're getting an early shot to show what they've got.

All going well - Green, DCE, Walker and Turbo play half a game max.

Even I think Barrett is doing the right thing here. Players need to blow the cobwebs out and get a little conditioning before the season proper, You will find with an unlimited interchange it will be stars out there for a bit of a run to see how they go, then they throw out the maybe players for most of it. Same system Des and Toovey have used in the past. Im happy to leave Barrett alone for a while to see what he can do. Im over whinging about him at this stage. new season new outlook.

I get what you're saying @bazeagle , but I kind of agree with everyone else in that our players "as a squad" are relatively new, so chemistry, combinations and time together is paramount.

I think we are going to surprise a few this year. We have depth. We are relatively injury free (or injuries are shorter term).

I think Barrett is a great coach. I think he MAY have too many people giving him their ideas and opinions at times. I hope he excels, we challenge for a finals spot, and he is extended, and becomes a very long term coach for us.

His passion and enthusiasm for our great club is awesome to see. He's got a bit of Tooves / Dessie fire in him. I find that amazing, because people suggested he had no personality when he was first selected.

pfft - Hope that's not full strength.
When you minus out Darcy and Vave ,that's alot of aggression missing.I wonder who's going to put their hand up..

I dunno, Trolls seem happy when they are being fed.
Maybe we can get Bob Fulton in to do a cull of posters on Silvertails. Im sure he could recommend good up and coming prospects on other messageboards who are witty, intelligent and who dont constantly make threads that have been done to death. Hey does anyone know if Snake or Matai are playing this year? What about Api at 9?! lol

Just in case he drops by...

Given Tapau, Uate, Myles, Jake Trbojevic, Api, Hastings, Lussick would all be almost certain starters plus Matthew Wright would close to a regular that is 47% of the NRL team being 'rested'.

Probably indicates that depth is great this year compared to previous years if posters think we are running out our 'best' team on Saturday night.
