Manly legend Jamie Lyon grew up in Wee Waa, just under 600km from Sydney. Growing up in rural New South Wales, Lyon had to move to Sydney in order to start a professional rugby league career, signing with the Parramatta Eels and debuting in the NRL in 2000 at the age of 18.
After playing 70 games in five seasons at the Eels, Lyon decided to go back home and play for his junior team, the Wee Waa Panthers. It was at the end of 2004 that he was offered a contract to play over in the United Kingdom for St. Helens. It was for St. Helens that Lyon stated his goal kicking career, managing to score a total of 586 points with 205 goals and 44 tries in his two seasons over there.
Lyon was expected to comeback to Australia and continue his career with the Eels in 2007, however the deal negotiations made a turn and the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles managed to secure Lyon on a four-year deal. It was at the Sea Eagles that Lyon found a true home. He became captain of the club in 2009, and now in his 10th year playing for the maroon and white, Jamie Lyon is one of Manly's greats.
Throughout his 17 year rugby league career, Jamie Lyon has done some incredible things, including playing 2 games for Country, 10 for New South Wales and 8 for Australia. As well as winning Dally M Centre of the Year four times and Captain of the Year twice. He has won two grand finals at the Sea Eagles, including captaining his team to one. On top of this he has scored over 1000 career points for Manly, being one of only four players who has done that for the club.
Today at 34-years-old, whilst he may be a bit slower than he once was, he is still one of the most talented players in the game. Our courageous captain Jamie Lyon will be finishing his rugby league career with the maroon and white at the end of this season, and with our finals hopes slipping away, the best way to give him a send off he deserves is to fill Brookvale Oval for his last home game in round 25.
We love you Killer, and we'll miss you so much!
