Game was possibly not as high a standard as that seen in the past.

New QLDers choked early. Hodges was very good for them. Bell was wasted on the wing and should replace Tait in the Centre.

NSW forwards were superb - O'Meley, Ryan, Hindy and Beaver were all strong as was Big Willy.

Beaver's defence was superb and he seems to do better when he can align himself wide. Kite was solid.

Well done to Finch who did okay - will probably cost Orford a shot in the next game.

Thank goodness we have the bye and can watch the others this weekend whilst we collect the 2 points.

i thought mason was outstanding early - kite was still on the sidelines warming up it seemed - poor game from him.

it wasnt played like a normal orignin at all - very slow at the start and no real hard running bar mason.

For mine Big will deserved mom, then beaver and finch were our best.

Gas was very good exept for that dumb error but what about the stupid flick pass off load from omealey a play or 2 beforehand?

hats off to finch - i though on 24 hours notice you couldnt have done much more.

good news for us as we wont lose orford for SOO 2

It is quite likley that has I have become old and cynical but the Origin fever that I felt 15-20 years ago has passed me by. For the past few years I have declined invitations to attend corporate functions at Telstra fir the Origin match.

I no longer ride every play hoping that the Blues score a try or a Queenslander is sat on his arse. When NSW scored last night I only felt mild elation, in times gone by I would have been performing some form of strange dance ritual in the loungeroom. When Qld scored last night I dis not feel the devastation I used to feel.

For me the game (origin) has lost its heroes and villians. It was easy to hate Lewis, Dowling, Backo etc when they played for Qld, I just don't feel the hate that I used to have for the Qld'ers.

Maybe its just me (I hope so) but Origin for me has lost something from previous years.

I tend to agree Corso!!! maybe its becuase we have won the last 3 or 4 series and we actually feel sorry for the Qldrs nowdays.

I tend to agree Corso. I wouldn't have cared what the result was.

My main concern was the performance of the manly players and hoping they are not injured. The game is still a good spectacle and worthy of a few beers and takeaway food with mates.

interesting that at the end of this series there will have been 41 games played in QLD compared to 32 in NSW and 5 in Victoria.

Home ground advantage to QLD there.

yet nsw have won 38, qld 36 with 2 draws to far

8 games less home graound advantage so far yet we have won more - go the blues, easily the better state

Beaver was outstanding - could have easily collected that first try.
Bell was solid - didn't get any ball but showed what he could do when he got it with that try. Mal is a muppet for playing him on the wing.
Kite - didn't get much game time. I reckon he'll get dropped for game 2, with Bailey back in the thick of things.

Unrotunatelty these days everything compared to the eighties seems boring.

State of origin with Lewis, meninga, Close etc against our guys was the best ever.

The cricket tests in the eithties against the poms and west indies were real contests and players like Lillee, Chappell's, Marsh, Thommo etc were players of the like we will never see again.

Even rugby with the ella brothers playing was damm exciting.

Also the band scene on the northern beaches was the best with all the local and overseas acts performing at the Manly Vale hotel, Royal Antler etc every week.

Unfortunately professionalisim has had its benefits but also its negatives. All players no matter what code seem so stereotyped now and there is so little instinctive play because it is coached out of them from junior levels.

You would never see players such as thommo or the ella's again because they would be coached at a young age to change their style and action.

The individual brilliance is just not around much anymore.

I doubt we will ever see the 1980s types again Tookey, including the legendary Lush linda of the 80s.

I bet you also wish the eighties were here again wheel so that you could have fun with lush again and your other girlfriends - Muzza and R Richards.

And beers and lunch everyday at the steyne then back to the Ivanhoe after work for more beers then drive home (pre RBT days).

Staff parties meant order the 18 gallon keg from the club, finish that by about 5 and then go and get another dozen cases of beer from the pub next door before kicking on to binges, didi's, rolfes, groucho's etc.

Staff farewells meant going to lunch at 11.30 and getting back about 3.30 pissed as a fart before going back to the pub after work. But we never missed work the next day no matter how bad we felt.

We spent ever friday night as a group from work going out to one of the pubs in manly. It was a great time and met some great people. For the past 10 years very few people at the bank socialise and most just want to go home and forget about the place on a friday night.

I think they are.

I believe it's because we have lost the characters of CLUBS. Players used to play for a club due to love of club predominantly. Now it's all just money hungering.

I also think that if there were more CLUB characters, more people would attend, bringing in more money, that could be ditributed to the games players.

If we got 25,000 to every game, TV rights people would realise how popular the game is and pour more money in as well, that could be distributed among the players.

etc etc etc

It's because the game is so professional... and has changed so much!!

I for one still get a great thrill out of origin.. but i think as garts said.. because NSW have been so dominant over the last 5 or so years it's hard for us NSW supporters to build a hatred for a team that has recently always lost... Once QLD get these young guys they have now going and working together and they win 1 or 2 series in a row.. then we'll see the "hatred" come back oui i'm sure!!

On the game: QLD's backrow is too small to deal with the big NSW forward pack... i was with a mate and at half time he was ****ting himself (QLD supporter) and i said to him "NSW have big forwards... you guys have a small forward pack, we are going to probably lead at half time every game this series.. but because your blokes are small they are generally fitter and so they will come back towards the back half of the game" this is exactly what happened... I think for QLD to end up winning this series they need to get 1 or 2 big buggers in that back row and try and stop our big arse forwards in the first 40... if not they can kiss another series goodbye!!

Great game... standouts were: Mason, Gasnier, King, Finch and beaver had a farkin blinder.. he had to be second in line for MOM
