Onitoni Large

This is a big coup isnt it?

The club must be doing something right to beat out so many others to his signature.

I forget who it was but wasn't there a poster on here saying they had a contact in the juniors, and no one wanted to come to Manly?

This flies right in the face of that.
Someone with an axe to grind probably

One worries about Manly's management of players. Our depth is terrible - the worst in the League?? with a laughable reserve grade side. And what about the loss of talent such as with Humphries and the Fainu boys with whom so much time, effort and finance has been squandered??
Depth worst in the league??

Hyperbolic if I've ever seen it.

I don’t know if this is a case of sour grapes coming out of the Tigpies camp or the lad just wanting a clear path to show case his talent.

Either way happy with this signing as every club has had a crack at signing him even Uncke Nick missed out.

Large consequences

The ridiculous clauses in Stefano Utoikamanu’s Wests Tigers contract, where he could leave if they missed the top eight, have resulted in the club adopting a new approach, and that has cost them rising star Onitoni Large.

Large, who has joined Manly, wanted clauses inserted in his contract that made him a free agent if Lachlan Galvin signed a new deal to stay at the Tigers beyond 2026. The Tigers no longer want to do deals that can come back to haunt them in the future. Particularly when the intention is for Galvin to be a long-term Tiger. It would mean they would have developed Large for another season or two and then potentially lost him.

It is Large’s agent’s job to do the best deal for his client, but the Tigers don’t want agents setting the tone for them.

It may cost them a player or two, but the feeling is they can’t be pushovers or they will never drag themselves out of the cellar. Taking a strong stance when you are running last is a brave move, but one they are comfortable with.

The younger brother Ashton is a lightning 9 who is perfect in the modern game....similar to Fainu with also plenty of tenacity in style, but quicker....actually plays up a year at rep level and a good chance to be at Manly by 2026.
He played today at outside centre for the Waratahs u16s academy team, got a try in a huge win, was on Stan Sports.

Moved very well and looked good at centre.

3. The timing of Brooks & DCEs retirement
Not to disagree with you, but I can see DCE possibly doing ‘one for the road’ in 2026.

Plus if Brooksy’s body holds up and he is still playing well, maybe another 2-3 seasons at Manly, on top of his current four year deal. I believe he turns 30 before next season.

If he continues on his injury free ways, he might become the first(?) player to play 200+ FG games for one club, then 150+ FG games for another.

How desperate for a decent signing are we as supporters.

We herald SG signings and 17 year old kids as saviours.

No wonder the poor little pricks get crushed by the pressure of expectation.

Funny thing is, when our club make a top 30 signing, the desire for instant success has the opposite impact on here, unless they are a current Kangaroo they get slammed from piller to post for being so crap.

Ahh the off season.

Pretty sure no one has even remotely posted anything as saviour, just people excited for the potential from what I have seen.

He does look pretty promising, the schoolboys footage of him suggests he is a good defender. Api was quoted as saying much the same. Throws some good passes also. His brother looks likely also as a 9.

Yeah! But remember what Benji said about the Shu!

Just sayin’

Maybe would be more suited with a bit more room to move and with that type of serious speed and natural ability , in a 6 role ,
And he apparently does have a preference to play in the halves .
No impediment with being a tall 7 in the modern game or any time [ and was not aware initially just how tall he is ] but if he does spend some time as a i st grade Manly 7 , probably will be the tallest in Manly 's history

'Alleged leak' creates 'ill feeling' between Manly Sea Eagles and Wests Tigers

There's plenty of ill feeling between the Sea Eagles and Tigers over boom youngster Onitoni Large.

Rated the best schoolboy player in the country, Large quit the Tigers last week to sign a lucrative deal with Manly.

Large and his family wanted the move kept secret - but it was allegedly leaked to the media by someone at the Tigers.

That annoyed both the young half and the Sea Eagles, who refused to announce the signing on their own website.

If the kid becomes a star, which seems highly likely, the bad vibe between the clubs will only increase.

So snatching the Fainu brothers doesn't count, Surely tit for tat
