Hey people I'm just back from the pub and smashed a plate of mussels washed down with a fine savvy blanc and was wondering, who do you guys reckon lost NSW the match more?

Cleary was obviously terrible and should be pushed towards the "Mitchell Pearce - don't not fkn pick again both he and his old man are overrated" corner. But he was valiantly assisted by "drop ball miss tackle please never kick again throw intercept pass" Wighton. Guy was terrible. Did not like.
Fittler lost it with his dumb arse selections and his dumb arse substitutions. No big aggressive players on the bench i.e psycho Lodge, Sims or RCG. Jake and Frizell sitting on the sidelines for half a game while midgets Murray and Crichton getting smashed and Haas playing like a timid 19 yr old. Out of form and no game manager Cleary instead of Pearce. Also Lattrell is sadly out of form and shouldn't have been picked but there simply was no form alternatives. NSW was always hundreds to win up there with that team.
1. Teddy
2. JADO
3. Turbo
4. Morris
5. Blake F
6. Cleary
7. Pearce only because Keary and Reynolds are injured
8. Klemmer
9. Cook
10. Vaughan
11. Cordner but I'd rather Tariq
12. Frizzell
13. Jake T

14. Peachey
15. Lodge
16. Tariq Sims
17. Finucane

his midfield kicking was very effective and I thought cook was responsible for most of the ineffective short kicks in the 20m zone..

Imo Clearys midfield kicking was nothing but bombs. Some excellent bombs, no doubt, but I would have loved to see the ball kicked to the corners a lot more, especially early in the game.

We have a smaller pack, presumably fitter too, although up-tempo suits QLD, always has. We need to slow it down and grind them into the dust.
Cleary keeping the ball in play is not the game plan for NSW, despite our smaller, apparantly more mobile, fowards.

Munster, DCE, even Lol Hunt were having a field day and Qld should have won by 20 tbh.

4 n 20 pies x2 and chips actually ... just hamming it up for the Silvertails

due to early starts in the morning i only watched the first half & at half time i thought qld would run away with it.
cleary mustn't look at the opposition much because after cook made a break then passed to teddy, he was tackled and cleary was on the open side. he got the ball, qld had them outnumbered 2 to 1 yet he kept going that way.
if the went left nsw had a massive overlap and to make it worse they went the same way again next tackle.
cleary = no vision

Finally its been said. Spot on mate.

The problem for NSW is that last night both of their halves were players who don't create. Maloney does the bulk of it at Penrith while at Souffs they have Reynolds and Cook leading the way.

Cleary has an old head on young shoulders. He's composed under pressure for the most part and he does have a good kicking game, including his goal kicking. But he's got no vision and he's not even close to being a creative half, then add in that his form this year has been worse than average. Even in the games Penrith have managed to win, you could hardly ever count Cleary among their best players despite Nein giving him the MoM for the win over Doesn't-matta. Then there is Walker who for all intents and purposes has been living the high life (especially this year with his try scoring) off the back of work done by others and not himself, and last night he was found out in both attack and defence. A 29 year old rookie Origin player.....but a Roy Hobbs he is not.

The worst thing that could have happened to NSW Origin happened before this series even started. Luke Keary got concussed and ruled out of playing for a few weeks because its what, his 3rd in a few months? Pretty much right up until that point he'd been the form half of the NRL and I'd say was a shoe in for NSW selection. If Keary played instead of Walker, especially for someone like his club team mate Mitchell, last night could have been very different.

The forwards were dominated, halves stood no chance. The aggression up front has to be matched for the halves to get into the game. I thought Wighton was a strange choice of utility and maybe that's where Maloney should have been picked

I also think there was another problem for NSW last night, not just the lack of creativity in the halves or Mitchell's piss poor performance in the centres.

It was the selection of 2 back rowers on the bench and the only prop being a 19 year old rookie who has been living more on hype than substance. And that was then compounded by Fittler's poor use of his bench.

When Klemmer, Vaughan and Jake were on from the start, I felt NSW got on top of Qld. Defensively they were strong (what else would you expect with Jake there??) and all 3 were making good metres. Then they get subbed off and all that momentum was just about killed off. And to make it worse, Fittler then had them sitting for way too long. From a Manly perspective I was happy for Jake to only play 50 minutes last night because it makes him a better chance of playing 80 on Saturday. But for NSW, the reality is that he and the front row sat for too long and by the time they all got back on the park together, Qld had their roll on and NSW was playing off the back foot, basically being camped in their own 30 for almost all the second half.

Murray wasn't too bad in all honesty and I thought he was making some good metres with his runs. But Crichton didn't deserve his spot and played like it. Haas had potential, but after giving away that silly penalty seemed to go into his shell and wasn't a factor. Honestly, NSW need to pick another front rower on the bench (possibly Lodge) and drop Crichton....at the very least. Then Fittler needs to shelve this juniors mentality "give everyone a go" thing and leave those who are doing the job on the field for longer periods.

Better halves and better bench forwards, plus more intelligent use of the forwards rotation, could have seen a very different result last night.

But Keary has the best game manager in Cronk with him. Keary would need Reynolds, Maloney or Pearce alongside him in origin

And to that end, the NSW halves should have been either Keary / Reynolds or Maloney / Reynolds. With Keary not available, in all reality Maloney has to be there (sorry for anyone wanting Pearce....but just no. His Origin time is done).

The problem is also that Cleary isn't going to be dropped. He doesn't deserve to be there, but he is and I can't see either Reynolds or even Pearce displacing him, even though every man and his dog knows that at least one of them should. If NSW are to be a chance in Perth then they really do have to pick Maloney as the 5/8. He's the game manager that NSW lacked last night.

There was another thing missing for NSW last night. Last year, Qld basically had the two best fullbacks in the game running at them because although he was on the wing, Tom played last year like an extra fullback and Fittler wisely used his and Tedesco's running games to good effect. Last night, they only had Tedesco (who along with Cook was arguably their best players). Cotric stayed out on his wing ALL night and while safe, didn't provide any threat, while Addo-Carr didn't see anywhere near enough of the ball in attack and defensively he got found out and he only prevented 2 tries simply because he is so much faster than Chambers.

For mine, this is how NSW should line up for Game 2 in Perth:

James Tedesco
Josh Addo-Carr
Latrell Mitchell
Josh Morris
Tom Trbojevic
James Maloney
Nathan Cleary / Adam Reynolds
David Klemmer
Damien Cook
Paul Vaughan
Boyd Cordner
Tyson Frizell
Jake Trbojevic

Jack Wighton
Payne Haas
Matt Lodge
Cameron Murray.

Of course, we all know that Cleary will get picked over Reynolds, but I can see Walker being dumped in favour of Maloney (IMO it has to happen). And despite his also poor form, I can see Crichton being retained, although on form (and I hate saying this because I don't think he should be in the NRL) I think Matt Lodge should replace him in the bench. I also think that provided he gets through Saturday night OK, its a given that Tom is going to be picked in place of Cotric.

Can see why Crichton is being bagged but Murray should be one of the first picked. Made one error but was in everything up to his ears. He has a huge future.
Cleary isn’t out of form. I don’t think he’s ever been in form.
Walker can’t be bagged after one game where the forwards were getting smashed. With Keary out I’d be going with Maloney and Walker. He deserves another chance. They gave Mitchell 20 chances. In any case you wouldn’t say Wighton grabbed his opportunity with both hands and with Reynolds out also there are not many options.

Keary destroyed us at Brookie on his own in pounding rain. His management and execution were sensational. He’s snapping at the heels of DCE and Munster right now. His man of the match game in the Grand Final with Cronk with one arm allayed all my fears with respect to him.
Pressure doesn’t come any greater than that.

You know, as much as Jake deserves his starting spot, if Fittler insists on having two back rowers there maybe it would be better for NSW to start Murray at lock and have Jake coming off the bench as a front rower?

Which is why I think Crichton should be dropped and another front rower selected for the bench.

Cleary by a chin.

That was the shortest lived dynasty in the history of mankind! Same old Blues every time. When you look at that spine of Ponga, Munster, DCE and Hunt, it’s gunna be a loooong few years in the wilderness again.

Unfortunately N.S.W in last 15 yrs have not really been interested in a successful origin campaign. We had Bellamy as a coach from 2008 - 2010 for 9 games in total, 7 loses 2 wins. For the blues to win during this time he would have had to coach against a team made up of players from Melbourne's back line. do we really think he would shown all the teams how to beat his Melbourne Side? In the words of the Michael Caton From the Castle "tell them they are dreaming" Than we got Laurie Daley from record is 2013-2017 record is 15 played won 6 lost 9 against a side at that Belamy had coached against with perhaps 1 or 2 changes.Based on that record Daley would have to be 3 times the better coach. Now we have Brad Fittler coaching record is 58 games (roosters) 25 wins 1 draw 32 loses before being replaced by Brian Smith. I feel Brads greatest coaching tactic was to promise that if he got the job they would also get Phil Gould on board. Look at the Manly team of this year they are basically the same team as last year yet the difference is chalk and cheese. Imagine Hasler being able to pick the best of the best for a NSW team, imagine installing the siege mentality for NSW. The Us Against The World mindset. Do we really believe that we would have had the same result. Hasler should have been coach of the blues from 2008. I can only imagine what the result could have been. As someone said today in jest on the radio Brad needs to stop leading the team around Bondi Holding each other's hand in other words where were the mongrel's in the team oh that's right they were on the bench. These players are at the peak of their career. They need a tactician, someone that can see / make holes in the opposition defence, and self believe, not try to re-invent the wheel. If a player chosen due to his high ability fails in the main arena who's fault is it? Do we really believe that a player loses that ability overnight. Latrell mitchell, Walker, etc looked like they had no farking idea.
Just my opinion boys and girls.

There is a rumour going around that Cleary is one of those videos. Could be just another rubbish rumour or could be why he’s been pretty average lately.
