OK - So HOW do Manly Improve ?

Without bagging staff or players we are stuck with for 2018....what are some realistic ways to improve?
Just a few simple things to start off....

* The kick/chase has been horrible - poor kicks and intensity that follows with defensive chase.
* Attacking metres are ok - but play balls lack urgency - play the thing today!!
* Numbers in tackles, the defence is often ok with a 1 on 1, but the attacker is allowed up too fast with 1 tackler
* More talk - they are the quietest team in the comp
* Aggression across the park - usuually appear more timid than the opposition
* Halves to take more control/ direction, if they are up to it

Discipline, fitness, game management, set plays, defensive line speed, defensive impact, communication, leadership, 5th tackle options, 5th tackle execution, field goals, bench impact, ball security, game planning and red zone defence.

When there's a crisis like this one, it's back to basics !!

Strong kick and chase game. Stand deeper in attack give our centres room to attack. Pay better attention to detail is dealing with the kicks . Keep things simple!! Hopefully this injury toll will improve

To your points maxta;
  • I think our chase is ok but our kicks need a lot of work,
  • Our go forward I don't have an issue with,
  • I think we just need to wrestle better in tackles, I am not seeing many rolled onto their back,
  • Agreed but I think that needs to come more from DCE, Hodko and Turbo
  • I think getting more wrestle in the tackles can address this
  • I think they need to play better options and their role defined. Too much "have to carry the whole team" mentality I think.
Biggest 2 issues we need to tighten up is our defensive structures as we are missing way to many tackles and errors (dropped balls).

Although last weeks game against the Cowboys was a poor performance overall, there were large sections of the game where our defence was impenetrable.

Stop overplaying the backs running hit ups. They are getting in the way of the forwards and allowing the opposition defence to compress. 1st or second is ok but when you have Marty and AFB lined up and running ready for the ball on the 3rd and 4th yet Kelly/Uate/Tafue/Suli jump in for an ineffective dummy half run with slow play the ball.

There was a few times last week where we had room on the left and our 3/4 line was no where to be seen

Last week was just 7 errors and 5 penalties which is a good return in those areas. Although we were missing the turbos who lead those 2 stats I guess.

Simple answer my friend get a first grade quality coach. Sadly the bloke we got at the moment isn’t up to the job.

Good post mate, only see the go forward a bit different...the yardage is good, but we seem to be slow playing the ball....1 reason I believe, as AFB and Marty charge up field it could well be their post contact metres and the fact it takes 2,3 even 4 in the tackle which often slows down the play.
In turn, some of these smaller props who charge into the line are tackled in an instant, but bouncing to feet and play it quickly.
The difference is almost like in touch footy where you send some early plays directly behind the ruck to sacrifice quick plays to roll forward, where as if you step and try beat a man and get tagged, have to go back to the mark and it slows down attacking flow and allows the defence to set.

Very good assessment
we give away too many penalties:
Enthusiasm and intensity from the 1st minute needs a big improvement
Defuse kicks - high ball or along the ground
Play the balls must be completed with foot
Complete the sets - too many poor passes and drop balls.
1% ers
Pick the best players available ( no matter how young )

We have shown on multiple occasions this season that we have the skills, composure and an effective game plan to win games, but the drive to win seems to be gone. Something is very wrong with the playing group and there are only a handful of players who really seem to want to win each week, the rest fold as soon as things go against them. It's the reason we have been so ordinary for several seasons and I can't see any change of tactics improving things.
Someone at the club needs to ask some hard questions about the root of the problem and then make some harder decisions about how we get back to being Manly again.

Not get injured as much would be a good start...
