Here is my tribute to the ex-Manly coach :

There was a coach ,quite deceptive and steely
Whose story was told by Thomas Keneally
But much has changed since that tome was conceived
Like friendships corrupted and people deceived

He was staying at Manly , or so he pretended
While players were signed and contracts back-ended
He went for the challenge which seemed a bit funny
When we all heard him say "Just Show Me The Money!"

His speeches are full of mumbles and pauses
And his contracts are littered with get-out clauses
On Grand Final day he came down with a thud
Despite rorting the cap and using calves' blood

He took it for granted our stars would follow
But apart from just one they weren't quite so hollow
Knocking back money might seem quite bizarre
But some things , Des, are more important by far

When Manly was rocking and ready to tip
Up stepped Geff Toovey to steady the ship
He donated his larynx to the Manly fight
And when he bleeds it's maroon and white.

I will say this, Des's biography, The Utility Player, has been the worst sports biography I've read.
Yes and 'Schindler's Ark' was the worst book I've read about the Holocaust and 'Confederates' was the worst book I've read about the American Civil War and 'Bring Larks and Heroes' was the worst book I've read about early Sydney and 'The Great Shame' was the worst book I've read about the Irish diaspora.;)

You could read Schindlers Ark? better than me, I gave it away after about 250 pages.

Hasler in my opinion is all of smart, tactical, materialistic, perfectionist, self motivated, competitive, winner, dis-loyal, articulate, greedy, forward thinking.

Basically, he's a human trying to make his way in the world....like we all are.

Good on him for securing his future.

You obviously never had the misfortune to receive Mark Waugh's book as a birthday gift.

He was a great coach from 2000-and-something till 2012. Everyone has a use-by date.

And I thought he was trying to outdo Darren Lockyer!

Well done Driftout.

I thought that they were/are both trying to do their best impersonation of Tommy Raudonikis
