NRL's Sea Eagles hit with breach notice

Monday, March 27, 2006 - 3:38 PM

Manly has been issued with a breach notice by the NRL following Sea Eagles trainer Geoff Toovey's altercation with referee Sean Hampstead at Brookvale Oval on Saturday night.

Toovey was sent from the field by Hampstead midway through the first half of Manly's come-from-behind 20-18 win over Cronulla following a running battle between the referee and the former champion halfback.

"Get off the field, don't go screaming at me," Hampstead said to Toovey as he gave him his marching orders.

The Sea Eagles were fined an undisclosed amount by the NRL, and now have five days to make submissions in relation to the breach notice.

NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said trainers were not allowed to talk to referees in any capacity.

"The fine has been imposed because his duties don't allow him to be offering advice to the referee during the course of the game," Annesley said.

"He's only allowed to run water and messages to his own players."

What a fool, not really setting a great example for the players is he.

hes still a angry little man that loves his refs!!! I found it funny watching him being sent from the field for giving the ref back chat when he is not even playing.

Tooves is on the field so much that it won't surprise me when he momentarily forgets what he's doing and makes a try saving tackle.

I still think that BK isnt talking enough. The captain should talk to the ref a little - remind them that they are being watched.

We need a cross between Monas and Bk. Monas was too much and BK is too little.
