NRL's reply to Me around Matai / Stewart

Clearly the club is not willing to pay out the players to pay their replacements the equivalent. They are seeking the insurance amount to offset the loss?..
My understanding was the big issue is that we want to have Snake and Matai excluded from our salary cap this year.

Manly has to pay them anyway, and yes, the Penns own Manly, but the NRL funds the clubs for the full cap, so the cost of players doesn't come out of the Penn's pocket.

So one has to ask how Anthony Watmough's request was so easily accepted? How were The Parramatta Eels management able to get the information required so readily, and Manly not so?

Are the NRL discriminating against Manly, or is Manly's records and commentary unsatisfactory for the purposes of this exercise?

I know this is semantics, but as lame of a person as this makes me sound, Steve Matai & Brett Stewart's brilliance on the field, got me through some very dark and tough times in life through their amazing entertainment.

I want the ability to get down there with my kids, stand on the fence and scream these guys names at the top of my lungs for what they have done, and what they may do in the future.

Sucks. Sorry I'm so passionate about this guys. We OWE it to these men to farewell them appropriately and fittingly.

Hey don't get me wrong.....I TOTALLY thinks it sucks, not fair and totally bull****. These guys need their lap of honour...... more importantly we need our salary cap back!

Ryan

Great work champ

I applaud you on your effort to correspond in such a way and your dedication to asking some legitimate questions & concerns that represent the view of our manly fans

I am also not sure of the answer and wonder if they are giving a vanilla reply or being cautious in describing the situation without providing words that may compromise our club or management or former players

The question now remains where to next

Are our club management prepared to expand on the response from the NRL

Or perhaps our club wants its cake and eat it too in the way they are pitching a solution to the players payout that is in conflict with their application to the league

Well done mate

Typical corporate response that needs to be matched with another from our club

Go manly
Agree. Great letter @Ryan. It might be time now to write to Manly and mention what the NRL have written to you and see how they respond.

Guys, I got a troll from @mutley for this as well. Looks like we have another member, who adds pretty well nothing, comes on, trolls people, then slinks away back into their holes.

Add some quality value mate. Share an opinion. Show people you have some character. Or go back to your Eels website.

Given the speed in which Nathan peats was negotiated to the Gold Coast to help parramattas position it's clear in my eyes that the information available was not as important as the result.

The fact that peats had to be transitioned from parra to the coast by Friday nights game featuring the eels for them to be eligible to earn points while still a mathematical chance of making the 8 , but peats was unable to play the following Monday night for the coast as his contract had not been finalised is about as questionable as it gets. If he didn't have a contract on Monday he was contracted to parra on Friday

Adding to this , parra were able to put together chocs knee history in an afternoon, and to prove it was a new injury would have needed all the info from manly due to chocs chronic knee issues ,but manly can not supply the info for there own 1 club players in a year stinks to high heaven

The NRL have trotted out some stinkers over the years but to deny a team 1.3 mill from the cap while fast tracking proven rorters virtually on the same day asks questions , many don't want the answers to

As fans we just have to hope incompetence is the answer or our sport has already died , and we are just watching big brother or master chef

Hmm...if you're reading between the lines then their third paragraph says that Manly don't want to pay out Matai and Stewart.

Absolutely. I hope this is not the case. If you read various reports, both players wanted to play - Manly did not.

This should not stop the Club, if the player and the club have both agreed the player has retired, in farewelling the player.

This exactly!

If they medically can't play again why not just farewell them at the start of the season?

Salary Cap and Insurance assessments make no difference if they are definitely retiring.

I doubt very much that Brett would want to do a big send off thing. It's not his style.
He'd like to just slip away quietly.
Skiv's a bit harder to read but I'd say he'd feel the same way after all that's gone on.
Just leave it be.
