NRL Games [Round 2, 2025]

Interesting round.
Standout teams from Round 1 were Panthers, Broncos, Manly and Storm.
Storm have the bye but the other three all got beaten in big upsets!
Might be quite a dramatic season.

just the way the nrl is I wouldn’t be surprised if we smash Canberra at Brooky next Sunday. They were right up for this one tonight in front of a sellout. Trip to Brooky Sunday arvo will be tough even with a couple out. Need our pack to really stand up next Sunday and we can get it done.
Try Sunday night 615 game not in arvo

A bit early in the season to have this many upsets.

Maybe the betting companies paid out too much last week!

rigged!

lulz.

Classic Ref sledge in the canberra game

From the crowd after a penalty to broncos for obstruction

HEY REF, hows your apartment in brisbane, dont forget to claim it on your tax

Came through pretty clear. Do the ATO have a box in canberra.

with manly on saturday
Please Jake run straight, please don’t ball handle you give too much time for the opposition to smother our outside men, it’s like watching James graham, please be more direct and hit the line for a quick play the ball, only off load, the opposition has Sussed you out and giving you room to run and your not running straight
Why so many turnovers, it killed us. It seemed like we were coached to wrestle for longer than what we normally do, it’s like they were coached to do this
Tom has to play in centers til finals, it’s too risky at fullback, he’s still a big threat and koula or Lehi can take his place
We need a big tackle count 2nd rower to partner haumole, a Connor Watson type, maybe when Lachlan gets back jazz can go into 2nd row

The NRL have turned Rugba Leeg into such a momentum based game… it only takes a couple of 6-agains and teams become so gassed that they can no longer halt the momentum of the attacking team… mistakes get compounded and it really does become a case of running downhill… the only chance the team under pressure has is if the opponent makes errors or they can get a penalty to cause a stoppage…

It gets a bit frustrating as a fan because referee interpretations (which are not always wrong but are VERY subjective and often miss heaps of things whilst becoming focussed on others) have such a massive impact on game outcomes…

It happened with Manly and it happened with Broncs… whilst both teams compounded it with poor ball handling, my concern with Manly is that our mistakes were early in the game when we were not under any pressure - you simply cannot have such little respect for possession in the modern NRL…

It’s funny how things workout. The 6 again were brought in to stop teams from giving away penalties, halting momentum and to try and bring the fatigue factor back. Its worked, but not in the way the NRL were hoping it would.I get PTSD every time I hear the 6 again bell ring

It is the single worst rule change in the history of the game… retaining penalties and having 5min sinbins for negative play (intentional penalties) would have been better - I want to see a contest of skill not just a contest of stamina… especially when the scales are being tipped by a bloke that can’t even play footy…

And I realise that 5min without a player would also gas teams but the ref would not hand them out repetitively like they do with 6-agains… it feels like the refs get on a roll and become obsessed whilst teams are under duress…

Roll ball is another thing that is really p*ssing me off… I have seen soooo many non-calls that are no different to some of the penalties I have seen awarded… wtf is a “genuine effort” interpreted as???

Footy is now
PCMF with the ball
Possession, control, momentum, footy

We play possession, footy, which sometimes leads to momentum but also leads to No possession. Our control is scoring more often to control the ball.

Our lack of control seems to stem from a lack of self control or a complete lack of awareness or care. Its not awareness

looks to me like we chase a dopamine hit rather than a win

There was definitely an element of this in those first 20min on Friday… just die with the ball if the next pass is not on ffs… lots of our lost balls were not on the last tackle and the players have to be smarter in that instance - retaining possession and building pressure is essential

it was eveident against the cows too, we just held the ball better and thus gained momentum by getting the ball kicked off too us and subsequent penalties
its always evident TBH

no one celebrates a try like manly. it could be 12 nil after 10 and we celebrate like we have just won the americas cup. its a wonder our trainers dont wheel out a champagne cart, joking
