Forward Pass
I am in Year 12 and recently did a business studies assignment were I needed to research a businesses annual Finacial Reports. The teacher said to do a business that I was interested in, so I did the NRL. After two weeks of researching the NRLs 2014 and 2015 financial reports, I finally realised why the FOX Sports deal was made and why NINE created the "NRL Rookie" show.

Basically, The NRL has gone into deficit. They are spending way more money than they are earning. From 2013-2015, the NRL lost over 73 million dollars.

Amount of money at the beginning of period (1 November):
2013: $117M
2014: $66M
2015: $44M

If the NRL don't get out of this decline, there will be no footy in 2 years time.

Todd Greenburg is trying everything he can to save Rugby League. Help him by going to as many games as possible!

You're confusing cash burn with "losing money". You'd have to investigate what that money was put into in order to say whether it was lost outright or spent on something useful.

Not all companies or businesses work alike. Say if you look at a large construction company, the timing of their cash flows is all over the place and doesn't necessarily tie into a reporting period. One year may appear **** but they may have invested heavily in a project that will pay off a few years down the line.

And considering you made me defend the NRL I'm giving you a fail ;)

It's not the revenue that's the problem @SeaEagle9413 , it's the shmoozing of Corporates by the NRL.

The Rep Game tickets tripled in cost in 2013 to Fans, so we are paying our way as is reflected in the increased revenue.

But the corporate hospitality put on by the NRL and the reduced sponsorship of these special events, has led to the loss. They need to stop these lavish events. :wondering:

If the NRL can't make it on 1.8billion, then the terrorists have won @:D

Get rid of the teams that are being propped up by NRL ownership such as the Titans and you may just get hat 73 back.
Cash flow is the important factor anyway not profit

The NRL hasn't lost any of the previously allocated funds that it stores in a separate Sustainability Fund.

NRL's sustainability fund has gown to 80 million since 2013.

It is believed half of the net profit will be put towards a sustainability fund which already has $50m as a financial buffer for the code.

The 'not for profit' structure means that the NRL must apportion all of its revenue to costs and investments so the incommings result in no profit.

Don't make the mistake @SeaEagle9413 of treating the NRL as a normal corporate structure. They do not need to accrue capital and grow revenue to be attractive to shareholders as they are funded by selling broadcast rights and merchandise licencing.@

The NRL is like a religion - true believers handing over their gold, yet the Taxman leaves them alone
