STAR Sharks signing Josh Dugan has been caught up in another off-field drama before a ball has been kicked in the 2018 NRL season.
The Sunday Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield reported that Dugan was tossed out of Cronulla RSL last week for swearing and causing a scene in the poker machine area.

Lodges actions that night were abhorrent and he has deserved his excille from the NRL. But he’s done his time away from the game.

As for the damages 1.6 million is rubbish no one was murdered or maimed.

As manly fans we should look in our own back yard to see when young man do bad things get a second chance the do take the most of it and redeem themselves.

Look at out our own Founa Blake in the past I was very outspoken and outraged about what he did in his past. But then look at him and the way he has turned his life around after he too served his time away from the game. I think both offences
Are much of a muchness.

NRL is pushing a Denver game, so Lodge will constantly be a thorn in their side whilst the victims (on 9 news today) are interviewed on US TV 😕

Disagree, there are real differences in the 2 cases.

AFB pleaded guilty and was repentant. It was his first offence.

Lodge has history, including a history of DV offences, even before the New York attack. It is not a first offence. He should still be barred. He hasn't even tried to arrange to pay off any of the court-ordered compensation.

As for 'no-one was murdered or maimed' I know you are aware that trauma is occasioned to victims of violence so I'm not quite sure what you mean by this.

My problem with all of this - is that my sense of logic is really challenged. Please tell me what the NRL consider that a fit and proper person is! They use these words frequently and elasticise its meaning depending on their agenda. Don’t get me wrong I believe you give people a chance and sometimes multiple chances. But it is a privilege to have the opportunity to play NRL. This privilege places you in a position of social responsibly where you are idolised by our children. You don’t deserve that responsibility ever again after committing serious criminal offences that hurt others. It wouldn’t happen in any other profession. How do you consider a person that stomped on another person’s head whilst that human being lay prone and helpless on the ground, a fit a proper person.? Or a person that terrorises people in their own home scaring them to be in fear for their lives, a fit and proper person? Yet the NRL rub out other offenders that commit offences of less gravity and harm.

The problem here is that there is no separation of power. The NRL are the legislature, the judiciary and the prosecutors. It is nothing short of a dictatorship. They can and do change the rules when it suits them. Hayne being signed after June 30 by the titans who by the way were owned by the NRL. Letting Parra sign Hayne for $500 when he was on over a million at the Titans.

I can’t believe that they think they can continue to do this stuff and not be accountable. It is nothing short of blind arrogance IMO. Australians love to chop down a tall poppy especially a tall poppy that wastes the game’s precious money on limousines, business class airline tickets and $30,000 farewell dinners.

What is the NRL’s defenition of a clean skin. We are told Scam got a testimonial because he was a clean skin yet he had two contracts when Melbourne were cheating the cap. Again another case of make it up as you go. Then the icing on the cake was Scam escaping a suspension for a ugly elbow to the BACK of a player’s head because he resented a great legal tackle.

This is relative cam. In Oz its seems excessive for sure but not in the country he committed his tirade. Bikinis and aspro are not tolerated in some countries, with heavy consequences, indonesia is killing druggies on the streets. None of this seems appropriate to us where serious crimes are often met with a slap on the wrist

There is probably some truth in what you say but he did his crime in a litigious country and chose to settle rather than do jail time.

He took a settlement over jail time which in itself is different than the system here.

From reports he has made no attempt whatsoever to compensate. While the magic number seems high at 1.6 his efforts thus far of $0 is what the complaint is now based on.

They will never get $1.6m. Lodge will never have $1.6m to give them.

The fact of the matter is they haven’t seen a dollar and probably won’t.

On top of the club-imposed ban, De Goey has been fined $10,000 and will make a further $10,000 donation to a charity. He will also train away from the senior list for at least four weeks while he also takes on employment away from the club.

And knowing the AFL, you can bet that the "employment" is with someone connected to the club in some way where they can actually keep an eye on him. He won't have to go out and try to actually find a job like those on Centrelink. And his donation to charity will likely be paid by the club on his behalf. He won't be 10 grand out of pocket.

And as for Lodge.....there is a very simple explanation of how he was so easily allowed back in compared to someone like Todd Carney. Just look at the club he is with. Do any of you here think that the NRL are going to go head to head with the club that brings in the biggest average home crowds and the largest television audience? They are one of the favoured clubs.

If Brisbane had wanted Carney he would have been cleared long ago. If Manly had wanted Lodge he'd be singing for his supper.
