Hello mate, it's been bandied around before and in reality there are not the numbers attending these types of events to interest the bus people - we even sometimes struggle to fill the supporters bus from the Leagues Club.

For locals that bus is a great way to get to and from the beaches to the games and is pretty reasonably priced when you consider the cost of petrol and parking prices around most stadiums these days.

Coming back from a concert at Homebush by car last week was a nightmare getting out of P1 whereas the bus always gets away quick sharp as it is parked elsewhere.

There are of course a group of very passionate MWTS and others who do get to the games to support the team but travel to the Sydney metro area games from all over the place so difficult to coordinate or show any cause to any of the public transport channels.

As a tip if you ever park in P1 again at Homebush park on the top level as there are two exits there.

There is one at the southern end which very few people seem to know about. At the recent 20/20 game and we were out of the car park in two minutes whereas the other exit in the top of the car park at the northern end didn't move for 10 minutes..

Thanks for the reply Vid, I assumed the situation was something like that. Pity though, great sponsorship opportunity, imagine a giant picture of Matai or Choc across the side of a bus! The slogan would be 'I'd rather get hit by the bus"

Up to eight trains an hour will run from Central Station to Sydney Olympic Park for tonight’s NRL Telstra Premiership opener between the Rabbitohs and Roosters.

NRL Head of Football, Todd Greenberg urged fans to catch the train to ANZ Stadium where possible. “Anyone with a match ticket or members pass can travel to the game on any train at no extra cost,” he said. “So not only is it a hassle-free way of getting to the football but it is also the cheapest.”

Any word on the up to eight ferries an hour that will run free of charge to Manly & Storm fans on Saturday from Circular Quay to Manly to hook up with free buses to Brookvale?

It's obviously an ANZ Stadium initiative, not the NRL's.
Last years semis is an example - free travel to ANZ but not Allianz.
If the NRL was fair dinkum they'd include all venues with free public transport ( bus, ferry, train, light rail ) on the standard timetable rather than big note themselves with this press release and putting on extra trains.

On the Gold Coast it's free transport to all Titans games. You're supposed to show your game tickets but the footy fans are easily identified so if you've yet to pick up your ticket up, you still travel free. It's the same with Suncorp Stadium. The transport is free and frequent with extra buses. It has been this way for years so it has been the same under both ruling Governments.
I can honestly say despite the elite State-ism promoted by QLD that drives me bonkers, they sure help you get to the footy.

No doubt they will arrange free transport for Manly home games at ANZ or SFS. But no Manly fan wants that to be the club's home ground. They won't go there. So the free transport won't make any difference.

If Manly are forced to leave Brookie and play out of a central NRL venue ANZ or SFS they may as well have a Brookie farewell game and hand back the NRL license.

Looking at the ANZ surface after 40 minutes, the brains trust of the NRL thought that one through! 5 teams playing there this season, turf will be ruined by the end of tomorrow nights game.

I can't even decipher what this story is trying to say but I think the hint is Manly and Sharks are about to get shafted and the ANZ clubs cartel will soon have their Super League. Is the $7.5m on top of the cap or is it the cap?

What's funny is Souths took the NRL to court for setting criteria and then kicking them out for failing to meet it. Souths argued the NRL had no right to set criteria and kick out clubs. Now look at their attitude.

NRL clubs praise "revolutionary" new funding model

South Sydney club chairman Nick Pappas believes all clubs should soon be profitable under the NRL's "revolutionary" new funding model for the game and those who aren't aren't may not deserve to be in the premiership.

Pappas and Warriors chairman Bill Wavish praised the new funding model outlined to Fairfax Media by NRL chief executive Dave Smith and said it would deliver certainty to all clubs for the next three years.

"It is revolutionary and my view is that if clubs don't perform with this level of funding they really shouldn't be around," Pappas said. "There is no more excuses, no more infighting, no more board squabbles. Every club should be able to move into profit mode with this promise of funding within the cycle of the plan."

Under the changes, which will come into effect from November 1, each club will receive a "participation payment" of $7.55 million, which will rise by $270,000 per year in accordance with the salary cap.

There are also incentives for clubs to meet specific revenue targets and an "at risk" component of up to $1 million for those who fail to fulfil minimum standards.

"This is the biggest step forward for the game as there has ever been, at least in its more modern history," Pappas said. "It is a two-way street, you get funding but you have got to participate and participate to certain standards.

"That is something we have been clamouring for at the Rabbitohs for some time, which is setting standards across the clubs in areas of governance and financial reporting and compliance and moving across into football areas like medical standards, reporting and guidelines.

"We think it is great because it is only when you incentivise this way and put a bit of a sting in the tail that you are going to get performance because some of the clubs are so embedded to the leagues club model that they just cannot get out of that mindset."

While details are yet to be finalised, Wavish said clubs now had greater certainty about levels of funding than ever before.

"It has been a long time coming and thankfully we have got a lot more clarity than we have ever had in the past," Waivish said.

"It has a few carrots and few sticks, not huge ones but enough to get your attention to reward desirable behaviour and penalise inappropriate behaviour or failure [in] certain things.

"It sets the ground for discussions between the NRL, the clubs and the players to not be so much about sharing the pie but growing the pie."

Wavish also praised the NRL insistence on "total transparency" of the funding for each club.

"If there is a reward for somebody and how it is calculated will be there for all to see," he said. "I know from my experience in basketball when clubs have got into trouble the league tended to be secretive and it caused distrust so it is the right way to go. I would like to think this is the beginning of more transparency with everybody in the game."

So yes, detroit red wings, toronto maple leafs, and lets say the new york rangers have huge sales of their merchandise.

Some of that money goes to clubs like florida, and nashville, with smaller markets.

Everyone knows this, poorer clubs are assisted, not 'hit with a stick', and no one complains.

Poorer is a relative term as the yearly salary cap is something close to 70 million dollars! Good luck finding that each year!

Players are contracted to Clubs and paid by them. So if, during a Player's contract a Club folds, how does the said Player get his monies :huh:
If he is an exceptional Player he may get offers at other Clubs, but maybe not at the price that he is originally contracted at :dodgy:

Makes sense. The Boncos have six times the potential supporter catchment area of any other NRL club, and should be taxed for the privilege.

I can't believe how the NRL clubs just sit by and get treated so shabbily. The code gets over $1billion and all each club is going to get as a share of that is the $7.5m per year which goes to the players. The clubs actually get nothing for being in the NRL and pulling in a $1 billion contract. Instead the NRL is now saying we might even withhold up to a million dollars of your cap money if you fail to meet growth targets. Where is the rest of the money the NRL gets actually going?
