NRL’s fastest player

I was surprised to see Drinkwater run down Walsh the other night. I put drinky in the fastest 40 range, but that was a surprise to me.
Is there no love for the Fox anymore?
I hope it happens. It’d be the best half-time entertainment since Billy Idol (I was there for that. One of the funniest things I’ve seen at a footy ground. Not as funny as that night in Brizzo when they introduced the "rally towel!). @:D
Didn "t see that play but have noticed on a couple of occasions Drinkwater staying with opposition wingers , not quite getting to them but going close .
Not too sure over the 100 but definitely some really good speed over 40 or so

Speed kills
It sure does my passionate Maroon feathered friend
Speed does Kill
It Kills the the slow mediocre ones that can not match the gifted ones that are born with the dynamic DNA Killer Speed
Speed is intoxicating and exhilarating and It Kills the opposition and Captivates the fans

Exhibit A...
Jason Saab on the way to the try line
Where are the defenders ?
Saab just Killed them with his speed
They are all left for dead !

The moral of the story ...
You can not tackle a player that you can not catch

If everyone was allowed to run regardless of Grand Final commitments, my line up would be:

Jason Saab (Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles)
Tolu Koula (Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles)
Dom Young (Sydney Roosters)
Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (Dolphins)
Alofiana Khan-Pereira (Gold Coast Titans)
Ronaldo Mulitalo (Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks)
Josh Addo-Carr (Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs)
Xavier Coates (Melbourne Storm)

Was reading Mulitalo has hit the fastest speed this year. Of course it depends how long he can maintain that speed!

That's the key isn't it. Hitting top pace is one thing, maintaining it for the length of the run is another. Its why the fastest runners in athletics also tend to be 200m runners as well. It helps to be able to maintain the rage.

And its why I rate Saab as the fastest right now. He might not have the outright fastest top pace, but he can maintain his speed over the length of the run.

Drinkwater is like Phil Blake was with his speed. Explosive off the mark and over 40 or so ... but dies in the ar$e after that.

Fun Fact: If I ran the 100 ... 000 would be on speedial and the time would be measured by Sundail.
The fun fact also is that we all have the opportunity to make an effort and keep beating our personal best

That new Knights guy is pretty swift too.

That's quite a line-up but I would add Siona Katoa (Sharks), Brian To'o, Trai Fuller (Dolphins), DWZ (Wahs) or even Bula (Tigs).

To'o wouldn't make the top 50% of wingers on speed. Now if you were putting half a dozen players in front of him he would probably be the only one coming out the other side. But in terms of fastest he doesn't rate a mention

He doesn't need speed. He's like a new age hoppa with out the grubbiness. To'o is like a 4th middle when it comes to yardage.

As for this sprint race.
Imagine if they did a 4 x 100

Manly would be kill it

Saab
Pepsi
Tom
Rubes/hoppa

I wouldn't underestimate a fit Koula. The kid has records in junior races for 100 and 200 metres. I would say he is only fractionally slower than Saab.

Pound for pound To'o might well be the strongest winger in the NRL ... but he's never going to win a 100m race against the 8 I mentioned.

Reuben Garrick is faster than any of those one you mentioned and I wouldn't have him in my top 8 for speed.

Fun Facts:

Tolu Koula's fastest 100 metre time is 10.58

Jason Saab's fastest 100 metre time is 10.67

Thanks. I knew he was very much in the picture. Obviously yet to see young Koula in the open and fully fit. I think he's been carrying an injury for a while before being sidelined. From having the slowest, in my opinion, backline a few years back ( I called it pedestrian), it seems with Turbo, Saab, Koula, Garrick and Hopoate, they now have arguably the fastest. backline. DCE and Brooks are also quick. Talau I suspect is not up to the pace of the five mentioned, but still is quite fast as well.

I think we all remember that slowest backline in around 2018, which was under the furniture salesman currently helping to ruin Parramatta's season. Brian Kelly, Brad Parker, Matthew Right, Moses Suli, Jorge Taufua, Dylan Walker. Thankfully we had a still young and pre-leg injuries Turbo and Akuila Uate to balance it out a bit.

And as you say, we've pretty much come 180 since then with Saab, Koula, Garrick, Hopoate and even Turbo.

One thing about Tom Trbojevic ... is it me, or since his return from injury has he ditched the Philly running style and is back to his old, faster style?? Maybe getting that bad hamstring injury this year opened his eyes to that he can be injured either way, so why not just go back to what's comfortable?? He just seems to be running with a lot more freedom than I've seen from him since he went to Philly. And it just so happens to have brought out his form. Not perfect, but he's closer to his 2021 form now than he has been since that Dally M Medal win.

2018 slowest Manly backline was one of the most painful years of my Manly life

I remember we were told when Brian Kelly made his debut (Rd.1 of 2017 against Eels at Brookie - we lost 12–20) that he was an outright speedster.

It took just his first run out in the open to dispel that myth.....
