THE North Sydney Bears are preparing an audacious $7 million bid to take over the Gold Coast Titans and rejoin the NRL.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Bears officials — led by general manager and former Test star Greg Florimo — have opened top-secret dialogue with the NRL about acquiring the financially-struggling Titans.

Won't work if they remain on the coast , the local league clubs are already distanced from the Titans, if the become the Gold Coast Bears run by Sydney people they too will fail.

And surely the NRL wouldn't let them inhabit the Sydney space

How many goes are they going to have at making a fist of it on the Gold Coast. What'll that be, the 5th attempt ??? When do they just give up and spend the money in an area that will appreciate having an NRL side.

The one upside is that it might finally sound the death knell for the Bears if they blow all their money and goodwill on another GC failure.

This is insane no matter what way u look at it. Surely Florimo will aim to relocate them to the CC. Gold Coast Bears that's classic. Side story here tho I was joking with a work colleague last week about the bears as she used to follow them when she lived in Sydney. Then tonite I'm at the table with my 6 and 3yr old and we were talking about a rival jersey for me to wear for our backyard league sessions (they wear their manly jerseys vs me) so I tell them the story about the bears being a classic manly rival. Told them how their fans preferred sitting in trees than on seats. They loved it and we agreed to find an old Bears jersey on gumtree for the backyard clashes. Then this thread classic timing.

Poor old bears, they are cursed and I would think the Gold coast would struggle to accept something like this and even if it happened, they would still blame Manly if it failed lol. I think one of the huge myths of the cursed Northern Eagles days is that bears fans peddle that Manly are responsible for their demise as a club when the fact is the Bears went belly up cause they gambled on a stadium being ready before it was and never forget it was Manly who paid out the Norths players who had NOT been paid by their club.

I dunno what you'd have to be smoking to come up with this hair brained scheme.
This has been spoken about for two years, around the same time as florimo was told by the NRL he has no hope of getting the bears to the central coast.
Too much opposition from Sydney clubs was the reason but it was mostly uncle Nick because as we now know he's got the juniors up here. The parasites were against it as well.
But to think you can call yourself the gold coast and play games there, the central coast and north Sydney and be accepted is madness.
The nomads would be more apt.

Yes. That's the argument I give to ever diminishing sour grapes bears supporters I meet.
Manly could've taken that central coast license for themselves but literally bailed norths out by taking them on board.
Therefore inheriting the equivalent of Quasimodo's hump that took years, and Max Delmege to recover from.

Not sure how it would work but i would love to have the bears back in the comp. I agree they needed less teams in sydney, but the bears were shafted.

Here we go again, the Bears hovering around the body of a rugby league club like a vulture waiting for it to die so they can pick at the carcass.
What makes them so arrogant to think that the Gold Coast will fully embrace a side to be called the Bears,wear the red and black and play out of the Gold Coast as well as the Central Coast and also North Sydney,.
The Rugby League world doesn't give a flying fark about the Bears and it's about time they stopped deluding themselves about their own importance.

The Titan's struggle to get a "real" following now as most SE Qlder's are Broncos fans or have moved from somewhere in NSW and still support their childhood team.
What makes them think that they'll suddenly jump ship and be Bears supporters?

As much as I admire Florimo's passion surely it's time to give it up.
