Non-Manly Games [Round 14, 2017]

Tribalism.
Nothing like it @HoldenV8
Doesn't Adelaide have 2 AFL teams?
That would be mad...

Yeah we do. Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power (who had a blackout tonight lol). If Brisbane ever want to see a model of how there can be more than one club in town who are successful they need look no further than Adelaide and Perth in the AFL. Hell, even Sydney has two teams and Sydney is not exactly a long held Aussie rules stronghold.

Interesting fact. In the two years that the Adelaide Rams were in existence (1997 and 1998), the Crows won the AFL premiership both years, the Adelaide 36ers won the NBL in 1998, the Adelaide Thunderbirds won the Commonwealth Bank Netball in 1998 and Port Adelaide (who were a well established local league club and already had a LOT of supporters) joined the AFL in 1997.

Is it any wonder crowd numbers dropped when there was so much local success elsewhere in sports that weren't foreign to the majority?

League is the only major national league sport in which Adelaide does not have a team.

I always thought the rams did ok with crowds.
But I ask because of how it affects the people. How the tribalism ( I love that word because I love the way it is). You know, banter and that.

The Rams crowds started well, they got 27,435 to their first home game, but the next best for the season was 17,633 against Brisbane. And by the end of 1998 barely 7,000 were showing up to games despite the move to Hindmarsh Stadium.

I was actually a season ticket holder in 1997 (they didn't play Manly in the SL, and that ticket also included World Club Challenge games against Salford, Leeds and Oldham). But once it became one competition again in 1998 there was only one choice of team for me so I didn't get another season ticket. In fact, I only went to about 3 Rams games all year (the first two and when Manly came to town late in the season....Beaver scored a hat trick that night 😀 ).

The Rams averaged 15,330 for home games in 1997. In 1998 they averaged only 7,472.

Unfortunately the success that other Adelaide teams had hurt the Rams attendances. They were winning, the Rams weren't, it was as simple as that.

So I'm guessing we are going for the Tigers and ( cough cough) the Bulldogs in the next games?

We are going to need to win most of our remaining games and see some of the top sides lose a few.

The Drizzle ( again) look the team to beat, Donkeys will really miss the MILF, especially if Waynee Poo leaves Hunt at Ippy.

I want the Dogs to keep losing.
Regarding the teams currently with GF credentials I'd put Cronulla and Easts in the mix.

You probably all know; but it was Ryan Hoffman's 300th game last night when disposing of the titans.

300 games is a great achievement in the nrl I think. Especially for non Manly players because...they have to play Manly and we deliver the pain better than other teams!!!

Anyway...well done Ryan "don't Hassle the" Hoff---Man.

I'm wary about posting lower grade stuff in case I get told I'm as boring as a British Jacket again.

Warriors in 30-10, kick to come
Goal converted 30-12, 12 minutes to go.

Interesting info 2: J Wright being used as a backrower. Interchanged with Lane.

Jono wright's bruising defence is such that it is no surprise to see him in the forwards.

We are playing cocky and confident...doing short line drop outs, and are being successful while we are at it & regathering.

BTW, team for the Warriors is beastly. They have:
Latu, Vatuvai, Gubb, Sao, Papalli, Cherrington, the Sipley's and other's in it, so we are doing BLOODY well.

If anyone wants to listen to it

Commentator sounds like he's 13 hehehehe
I think they've roped in a jockey from Hawkesbury race club to call it.
It's good to listen to these games though.

Fulltime 30-12. Blacktown now have won 3 of their last 4 games. After 14 rounds, now on equal points with 10th, which after our disasterous start, is pretty amazing (only 2 games out of the top 6).

Edit: This Warriors team were 2nd in the standings.
