No suli and JetSki is why

I dont want Siro coming in and taking anyones spot. Smole showed in his limited 30 minutes back from injury that he is an out and out first grader and is our future backrower. And our bench forwards have been massive for us to take one of them out. Really stuck on what happens when Siro comes in.
I don’t think he should come back in tbh. Maybe for Sipley with Guac to the bench.

Will be good to have players fighting for a spot. That’s how the storm do it.
The expectation and understanding of the role within the team at the Storm is well above what is expected at Manly. Not sure how he does it but Bellamy is second to none.

Let us put things in perspective

The same players that were flogged weeks ago are the same players that lifted in the last 2 weeks

Walker and Suli are just as capable of lifting as the others did

I think that Walker and Sulis biggest problems (ie in defense) get solved by lifting unfortunately.

I don't agree with Des' selections but mate that is why you and I are sitting here on the keyboard - we really have no idea.
Yep we make calls based on 80 minutes of footy. Sips is a classic example. I like him and have been pushing for his inclusion but after watching yesterday, it’s clear his fitness is not where it needs to be. Des would see this at training. I also don’t agree with a lot of what Des does including Guac on the bench yesterday. But he has a plan and I’m happy to roll with that if we keep winning.

Des has only picked Haumole due to injuries. He was not in his first 8 2nd rowers

Again, injuries make Manly stronger, not Des's selections.
Some people seem to think comps are won in March and April!

There have been numerous posters suggesting we should blood more kids, they won't mind getting thrashed week after week if only we get a look at some new (young fast) players as we continue to get thrashed. Hilarious, but people have actually said stuff like that.

Now we have the theory that all along it was Suli and Jetski holding us back. And Siro and Boyle no doubt.

But really? I thought it had been established conclusively that Garrick Parker Croker and Foran were the reasons for our floggings?

How about this? Of the so-called big 6, only Melbourne and Panthers continue to look in a different class. This is mid April! An awful lot can - and will - happen between now and September. A couple of favoured teams may crash and burn. An also ran may surprise.

One thing about Hasler is he doesn't throw kids to the wolves. I saw a comment yesterday about 'How can so-and-so ever improve without a long stint in first grade?' Des Hasler knows how long, how demanding and how arduous an NRL season is. And he knows which end is the business end. Of course our young talents are in his thoughts. But to his credit, despite being under immense pressure, he continued to select the best (which usually incorporates the most experienced ) players in the clear knowledge that it was the team that had to turn things around, not hope to be saved by a couple of personnel switches.

Will Sipley Haumole Harper Schuster be relegated when others come back? I hope not because the qualities they have are obvious. But what is not so obvious are the things the experienced coach can see, and his plan. I have zero doubt that all these guys figure strongly in that plan, especially in what Des wants the team to look like 4 months from now.

And if the team is playing well, does anyone doubt that even duds like Suli and Jetski can't come in and play a role? As they have done before. Whether they in our long term plans is a different question entirely.

Anyway - Rant in support of Suli Jetski and Des over!

Yes Des did wonders for Damion cook by not playing him.
Just to add balance.

Exactly.... Des sees things at training and effort off the ball that we have no idea about. Sipley's fitness is far far short of what we need BUT gee he is good in short bursts BUT not sure you can carry a forward who can only play in short bursts. Does anyone think Des purposefully doesn't pick a high quality player just because he is stubborn? He doesn't pick them because the player doesn't fit his gameplan/style, because their training effort doesn't deserve it, because they have errors that they keep making or because yes those off the ball moments we don't see are not up to what he wants. Many things that we simply have no grasp of yet the "experts" on here think they know better. I have certainly disagreed with some of Des' selections but I also realise like you that Des has a plan and he knows much much more than what I know.

That’s why Des decided to extend his contract to 2024 after round 1. He is in Des’s thinking but he likes to ease players in. Injuries mean his hand has been played earlier and Haumole will be in the 17 going forward. May be used as a front row rotation when Siro is back.
