No Room for DCE or Jake in Aussie squad

Can understand Jake's omission tho, most times with the ball Jake is akin to a swimmer treading water. And his tackling has dropped off somewhat

Aust don't play till Oct 28, so maybe this got factored in.

Oct 18, vs Tonga at Suncorp.

You missed the week long media crusade pertaining to Ponga's withdrawal from the tournament?

Nah, I was across it.
Meninga's reasoning for leaving him out was ridiculous when anyone who watches footy knows he's not "just a fullback" especially in rep sides.

Surely Teddy, DCE and Ponga are in the best 21 players available.

My point being the reasons stipulated by Mal are media lip service; it's clear he didn't get picked because he didn't want to play. It has nothing to do with being exclusively a fullback, etc.

Agree, the one I can't work out is Hunt over DCE. If it's age, Hunt is 36, DCE is 35. Bit of a slap in the face for Cheery I'd say.

I also don't understand why Hunt stays, but he's over a year younger than DCE, not the other way around.

Yeah l agree.
He'd have a lot more integrity if he just said so, he could've put some spin on it but to say what he did, we could all see through it.
Surely if he knew what questions the media were asking, he'd have a better answer than that.

The media were soft and just asked the obvious questions on Teddy, DCE and Ponga rather than the inclusions of Hunt, Turbo etc.
or why there's only one specialist winger, or lack of genuine front rowers?

With DCE's omission brings a benefit. There'll be a fire in the belly and desire to prove Mal got it wrong not choosing him over an underperforming Ben Hunt. He'll enjoy the break and come out firing in March.

If he needs a reason to play well for Manly he shouldn't be in maroon and white.

DCE TO MAKE CALL ON MAROONS FUTURE

Daly Cherry-Evans’ Kangaroos career is almost certainly over but his omission from the Australian side won’t play any part in whether he makes himself available again for Queensland.

Cherry-Evans always planned to make a decision on his Maroons availability at some time early next year. Sport Con understands that stance hasn’t changed despite Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga overlooking him for the Pacific Championships.

Cherry-Evans, a veteran of 21 games for Australia, was left out of the Australian squad as Meninga selected Matt Burton, Tom Dearden, Ben Hunt and Mitchell Moses as halves for Tests against New Zealand and Tonga.

There was also no room for NSW captain Jake Trbojevic and his brother Tom conceded he felt for his older brother.

“I definitely feel for him,” Tom Trboejvic said.

“Similar to me, he loves wearing this jersey and he has been a very good custodian in it.

“He’s obviously disappointed but he understands and I guess there is not much you can do.”
