Daly Cherry-Evans and several senior Manly stars were shock onlookers as supposed outcast Jackson Hastings tried to press his claims for an NRL recall.
Hastings tried his heart out, set up a try and even dislocated a finger in saving one as Blacktown, the Sea Eagles feeder team, were walloped 44-14.
But it was the who's who of former teammates that was the biggest talking point at Belmore Oval on Saturday.
Coach Trent Barrett will be none the wiser as to who to play alongside Cherry-Evans next weekend, but he would have been delighted with the unity shown by his senior troops.
A night after they slumped to a third-straight loss in the NRL, Cherry-Evans, the Trbojevic brothers, Dylan Walker, Akuila Uate, Addin Fonua-Blake and Shaun Lane all plonked themselves on plastic chairs in the main grandstand.
