NEWS: Sea Eagles pull teammate from car crash

SEA Eagles rookie Kyle Lodge is recovering well and has some hope of playing for the club this weekend following the collision between his utility and a bus at Dee Why on Monday morning.

After being treated by paramedics at the scene, Lodge was rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital suffering concussion and a shoulder injury but was later cleared of anything more serious and was released from hospital.

Manly football manager Steve Gigg today Lodge will have a light run at training tomorrow, and could make his debut for the Sea Eagles in a NSW Cup match against Western Suburbs at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.

“We’ll see how he feels, it’s subject to a doctor’s clearance, he’s some hope,” Mr Gigg said yesterday.

Lodge’s utility collided with the bus at the corner of Dee Why Pde and Pittwater Rd, Dee Why, at 8.05am.

The bus also collided with another car.

Lodge’s teammates Daly Cherry-Evans and Anthony Watmough were in the car immediately behind Lodge’s ute and rushed to his aid after the collision.

Witnesses have told The Manly Daily that the driver of the bus went through a red light before colliding with Lodge’s utility.

Northern Beaches duty officer Insp Naomi Moore said the bus driver was breath-tested as a matter of course and a blood test would have been taken from Lodge at Royal North Shore Hospital.

She said any charges against the bus driver are unlikely to be laid until the results of all blood-alcohol tests have been obtained.
