Some do better (Eagles included)

Some not so good.

Some are like a pimple on your eyebrow (unexpected and downright unwanted)

You wanted more Dan. There you go.

Mate i couldnt agree more, every year they seem to say "this is the closest comp in years" its actually not a "close season" IMO and i think you're right when u say the emergence of 3 distinct groups,i'm just happy that we are definitley in the top group.

It's a good read. The comp has broken up, however - you only have to think back to the Eels charge a year or 2 back to realise that a number of the so-called also-rans could make a late charge. One or 2 of them might even sneak into the finals, but they are all capable of doing some damage on their day. That is where the comp is close. There are no gimme matches, not for us anyhow.
