MANLY coach Des Hasler has revealed the Sea Eagles will again turn to technology in a bid to defend their NRL title with the players wearing GPS tracking systems in their World Club Challenge clash with Leeds on Monday morning. 

We understand the light-weight tracking device (about 100g) could revolutionise the game, particularly television coverage.

Imagine the statistics coming up on the screen for a runaway Brett Stewart to be clocked at 56km/h in a 40m burst being pursued by Billy Slater at 53km/h.

The NRL is investigating whether the device can be used during the upcoming season with a decision expected before the premiership starts in a fortnight.

I dont see a problem with players wearing this. 56kmh per hous seems excessive, most people only walk at 5 or less!

NFL have been using it for a while I think.  Though a GPS on a Centre must be riveting.

if brett can clock 56km/h over 40m then he may as well pop off to the olympics for a light jog of 40km/h and smash the WR record by half a second.

I recall that they were using the GPS in training and when they applied to the NRL to use it in a match they were refused permission.
