So I'm in France for a memorial unveiling to Cecil Healy. Who's Cecil you ask?

Cecil was a Manly man born and bred. The only olympic gold meddlist from Australia to be killed in Battle. He was killed 100 years ago today in a small town on the Somme called Assevillers.

This little town has celebrated his life today in a most special way. Even unveiled a statue of him.

I call on our underperforming hero's to take a note from a real Aussie hero's book and finish this shocking season on a high...

Come on boys. Do it for Cecil. He did it for you so you could play rugby league....

Absolutely brilliant of you Eagle.
Please honour Cecil and all who like him on my behalf.
I shall be thinking of them.

A great man, robbed himself of a gold to the great Duke Kahanamoku, the founder of surfing.

To be the best you need to beat the best.
I personally have never been to a more important place than northern France in relation to what Australian diggers achieved on the Somme. So much history,so much sadness yet so much hope in what the strong can achieve.
If any of you ever get the chance please please visit the Australin war memorial on the outskirts of Villers-Bretonneux. A truly moving place of reflection and Grief.
The village itself loves Australia with Aussie flags flying, fake kangaroos on the streets and A huge Australia sign in the local school.

A Manly Swimming cap about as far from gods country as you can get.

V-B and the dawn service there was an amazing experience.

The sign at the school is in Amiens.

We're taught a lot about Gallipoli (and rightly so) but we could do a lot worse than learning just as much about the camapigns in Northern France.

Luckily for the French, Cecil and his mates showed a bit more ticker than this current Manly side
